Are there any good alternatives for apple watch bands without fluoroelastomer?

I would like to find a silicone type band without the harmful forever chemical known as PFAS. A New University of Notre Dame research has confirmed this.

The results of the new Notre Dame study are startling. Every fluoroelastomer band tested contained PFAS, with concentrations of PFHxA above 16,000 parts per billion, or ppb, in some samples. Separate recent research suggests that PFAS may be absorbed by the skin. A 2024 study published in Environment International confirmed PFAS can pass through the skin and enter the bloodstream. Researchers found the forever chemical perfluorohexanoic acid, or PFHxA, at the highest levels in the 22 fitness bands and smartwatches tested. The Environmental Protection Agency says this substance likely causes developmental, blood cell, liver and hormone harms.

I like how durable and resistant the fluoroelastomer Apple bands are but not at this cost to my health.

I don't believe such a silicon band exists anywhere. Is there some reason you are not considering a metal, leather, or woven nylon watch band?

Here’s what ChatGPT has to say about Apple watch bands.

Apple Watch bands are made from a variety of materials, such as fluoroelastomer (used in the Sport Band), woven nylon, stainless steel, and leather. The presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often referred to as "forever chemicals," is more commonly associated with products requiring stain resistance, water repellency, or durability enhancements.

Fluoroelastomer, used in some Apple Watch bands, is a synthetic rubber material that may belong to the broader category of fluorinated compounds, but it is not necessarily the same as PFAS. PFAS typically refers to a specific subset of fluorinated chemicals used for their nonstick and water-repellent properties.

Apple does not explicitly disclose whether PFAS are present in their watch bands. If you're concerned about PFAS exposure, you might consider contacting Apple support directly for detailed product information or choosing a band made of natural or non-synthetic materials.
