Randomly, but at least once or twice a day, while using my phone it will pop up that I need to enter my password. When I put the correct password in it locks me out and I have to go through security questions to unlock my account. How do I get this to stop?

At some point.....likely sooner rather than later......security questions will go away. Apple may be giving you a nudge to go ahead with Two Factor.
I should be able to choose whether I would want that on my phone I would assume. I don’t lock my phone or have the authenticator so my kid could use it if needed in an emergency. I never did it before but has just recently started. It’s annoying enough that I’m considering going with a different phone if I can’t get it to stop.
