Can’t reset Face ID with stolen device protection

Face ID stopped working, when I try reset I have to turn off stolen device protection to reset.

I am stuck here as Stolen device protection requires Face ID to turn off!

Any help would be appreciated

LD150 is spot-on.


The whole concept behind Stolen Device Protection (SDP) is to inhibit account takeover if the device passcode is known by the attacker.


As such, any passcode-based “workaround” would invalidate the defense concept.


The “workaround” for any legitimate owner therefore IS to reset and restore.


Of course it’s inconvenient … but almost any added security layers involve potential inconveniences; and SDP is an optional user choice.

If the SDP is set to Always, or it does not regognise your location, if biometrics hardware has failed your only option is to DFU the phone.

Connect to a Mac using lightning cable

Quickly press vol up

Quickly press vol down

Hold in power button, the slider will appear, keep holding, then the apple logo apoears, keep holding til the picture of the cable comes up.

Select restore.

ALL YOUR DATA WILL BE ERASED
