Issue with Left Fan on MacBook Pro (M1 Pro, 14”)

Hi everyone,

I’m using Macs Fan Control to monitor temperatures and sometimes manually set the fans to max speed for quick cooling. Recently, I noticed that the left fan isn’t spinning, even when I force both fans to full speed. The right fan works fine.

• When I set the fans to full thrust, the left fan starts spinning, reaches around 800 RPM, and then stops. This happens accessionally.

• When running heavy tasks even in Macs fan control's automatic mode, the left fan also doesn’t spin.

• I’ve restarted the system multiple times, but the issue persists.

• As far as I know, the device is in good physical condition.

I considered uninstalling Macs Fan Control to see if the fan works normally, but I’m unsure how to monitor it without the app. Any suggestions on troubleshooting this?

System details:

MacBook Pro 14” (M1 Pro)

macOS Sonoma 14.6.1

32GB RAM, 1TB SSD

Thanks in advance!!

You have Apple Diagnostics on your computer, and it is very good at detecting fan issues, be they sensors or the motor itself. I would disable Fans Control and run AD. Instructions here:

Is the fan speed/stoppage issue position-sensitive? My son has a Macbook Pro whose fan would start and stop as he moved the computer. He found a tiny and unimportant piece of plastic that had been knocked loose when his wife dropped the computer weeks before. The plastic bit found its way into the fan housing and he had intermittent fan stoppages and slowdowns

I can not speak to your third party software...
