Opt out of Starlink coverage on iPhone?

I saw that Apple would be partnering with Starlink for satellite messaging coverage and I'd like to ensure that there is a way to opt out of this as a personal choice.

There are two separate satellite-related communications paths associated with Apple,kPhone, given the recent announcement.

There is the original out-of-coverage satellite access provided by Apple, and that coverage involves Globalstar.

There is now the recently-announced direct-to-satellite cellular, and that depends on the chosen cellular carrier and cellular plan. That includes the T-Mobile coverage (currently in beta) involving Starlink.

If you don’t want any dealing with SpaceX Starlink, then you’ll want to discuss that with T-Mobile if they’re your carrier, if (when?) the T-Mobile direct-to-satellite beta concludes with general coverage availability. Or discuss that preference with whatever other terrestrial carriers might eventually add Starlink coverage, or with whatever carriers might align with Kuiper*.

The recent announcement around Apple was the addition of Apple iPhone to the T-Mobile beta, as that beta was previously only available to Android devices.

*if and when the Kuiper constellation comes online, and if and when Kuiper then adds direct-to-satellite coverage.

Didn’t you read my comment? Or just regurgitate what you mentioned in another comment. I was told by T-Mobile my account will not have any connection to Starlink, the service isn’t part of my Magenta plan. Are you hinting customer service is lying to me without saying it?

Also, Elon said he would make his service available to other carrier IF THEY WANTED IT. I read your previous message about the other carriers using other satellite services or ownership.

And yes, I know my iPhone will use Globalstar for SOS services. Again, you chose not to read my comment.

Update: T-Mobile’s Starlink satellite feature is now in public beta, allowing anyone in the U.S. with an iPhone or Android to test it, even if they sign up for another carrier. It will be free until July.
I can't find anything supporting this, so can you please show us where you found this? I don't understand how this would work, since Starlink operates on the N51 band, which ONLY T-Mobile uses for Starlink.
Here you go: https://www.t-mobile.com/news/network/t-mobile-starlink-beta-open-for-all-carriers?clickref=1011lAeHygfB

It says in the first few lines: The beta is now open for absolutely everyone — yes, even Verizon and AT&T customers — to register for free access until July
That's interesting. Not something I'll be signing up for, but interesting.

Neither will I. I am fine with Apple’s Global Star satellite connection.

Hi All, here are the instructions from T-Mobile Support.

Here are the steps to unenroll from the T-Mobile Starlink application:

1. **Log into Your T-Mobile Account**: Access your T-Mobile account through the T-Mobile website or mobile app.

2. **Navigate to the Starlink Section**: Go to the section related to T-Mobile Starlink services.

3. **Select Unenroll Option**: Look for the option to manage or unenroll from the Starlink service.

4. **Confirm Unenrollment**: Follow the prompts to confirm your decision to unenroll from the Starlink application.

5. **Check for Confirmation**: Ensure you receive a confirmation message or email indicating that you have successfully unenrolled from the service.

If you encounter any issues or need further assistance, you can reach out to T-Mobile's customer support or visit a T-Mobile store for help.

Thank you for clarifying, I just read that Apple and Musk’s starlink were joining and I don’t want to support anything involved with Musk
thank you for easing my mind

No problem! I am curious where this misinformation is being spread. It may be helpful to others as well, so they can reevaluate where they are getting their news. In this day and age, accurate information is more important than ever, and it is up to the user to determine the source of the information they believe.

If you're thinking Apple will see this and change course, you'd be wrong. This is a user to user only forum, which Apple doesn't read for feedback. As users, we honestly don't care what phone or carrier you use. Just don't be surprised to see all manufacturers and carriers ultimately adopt this as well.

Or "cut off your nose to spite your face." Completely your choice.

So, let me ask you a question. Having the ability to connect to Starlink is no different than having the ability to connect to the cellular carrier of your choice. Starlink is a service you can choose not to use.

I choose my carrier based on multiple factors. But are any of the telecoms saints? I really don’t think so. I make choices.

If I come across an accident and have no cellular connection would I choose to save a life over not connecting to Starlink? You bet I would. It’s a choice and I’d rather have Starlink as a choice than not.

Just for the record, I cancelled my Twitter account the day he bought it. I’m no fan, but yes a service in an emergency you bet.

I cancelled my account that day as well. So, not a fan. But if an emergency arises and this technology could save my or someone else's life, I'll use it without reservation.

Well said Jeff. Totally agree with both you and lobsterghost1.
