How can I manage multiple accounts on Apple TV?

I am puzzled what the benefit is for having more than one account. I have set up my default account, with my photos. Set up my wife's account to see her photos, but every app defaults to my account. This isn't very pleasant from Apple. So, what is the benefit of having multiple accounts for adults (spouses) in the same home using this same device?

The default account is the account that is marked as default. This account has a few services just for that account, including device registration, iCloud Photos, and HomeKit — regardless of the active account. [I hope they make the iCloud Photos part more flexible in future versions.]
Multiple accounts allow for user-switching without editing account properties. Just one of the accounts is the active account. That applies to most apps that use this account to access content; mainly Apple apps. It affects e.g. the app user in the TV app, the watch history, queue list and progress for Continue Watching, search history, recommendations, any restrictions that may or may not apply to that user, etc.
