Why does my iPhone 15 Pro end FaceTime calls after 1 hour and 20 minutes?

As I’m FaceTiming my call will hang up without fail after exactly 1 hour and 20 minutes almost perfectly on the dot.

FaceTime itself does not impose a strict time limit on calls, so if your FaceTime calls consistently drop at exactly 1 hour and 20 minutes, the issue is likely related to your network rather than device settings.

Check these possible reasons:

  1. Router Configuration Issues
    1. Session Timeout or Idle Timeout: Some routers have a session timeout setting that automatically disconnects prolonged connections.
    2. NAT Mapping/Firewall Restrictions: If your router has strict NAT (Network Address Translation) settings, it may terminate the session after a set duration.
    3. QoS (Quality of Service) Limits: Some routers have QoS settings that limit bandwidth for certain applications after some time.
  2. ISP (Internet Service Provider) Limitations
    1. Dynamic IP Changes: Some ISPs assign dynamic IP addresses that may change after a set period, potentially disrupting long-running FaceTime calls.
    2. Traffic Shaping or Throttling: Certain ISPs may impose time-based limits on high-bandwidth activities, including video calls, to manage network congestion.
    3. Session Timeouts: Some ISPs automatically terminate long-running connections, especially on mobile data or limited broadband plans.
  3. Network Stability & Wi-Fi Issues
    1. Wi-Fi Interference: If you're on Wi-Fi, interference from other devices, network congestion, or weak signal strength could cause the call to drop.
    2. Bandwidth Fluctuations: If multiple devices are streaming or downloading large files, your connection may become unstable.

Possible Solutions:

  • Restart your router and check if the issue persists.
  • Log into your router settings and look for session timeouts or NAT settings that could be affecting FaceTime.
  • Try using a different network (e.g., mobile data or another Wi-Fi network) to see if the issue is network-specific.
  • Contact your ISP to check if they enforce session limits or timeouts on long-running connections.
