How to unlock and wipe a found iPad Air with a lock screen code?

I work for a company that cleans out apartments and houses that have been moved out of or for what ever reason no one lives there anymore and we go in and remove left furniture and other things left behind that the previous residents had left or for what ever reason is still there. I found and iPad in one of our jobs sites that the previous resident had unfortunately passed away and well of course everything is being thrown out and we if giving permission can keep what ever we want if it’s ok to do so well I again I have found an iPad Air 11 m2 that isn’t disabled but has a Lock Screen code is there a way to go about getting it wiped so that I can put it to use by chance?!?!

If you try you’ll encounter activation lock which can only be released by the owner … or the decedent’s court-designated heirs.

So no. That iPad will be nothing but a paperweight for you.
