EarPods (wired earpieces) require too much power to use on iPhone

I bought the type c wired earpieces from the official Apple Store and I bought a type c female to lightning male adapter from another store online as apple doesn’t sell adapters that convert from type c to lightning. However when I plug in the EarPods and my adapter into my iPhone 12, it gives me this notification: EarPods: This accessory requires too much power. The earpieces work fine for my iPad and the adapter also works with my unofficial type c earpieces. I’ve restarted my phone and haven’t upgraded it to iOS 18 yet as I’ve heard that iOS 18 would interfere with connection as well. What can I do? I’d love to use this earpiece for both my iPad and iPhone instead of buying a separate one.
