Issues on my iPhone 12 Pro after updating to iOS 18.3.1

Since completing the update I cannot control downtime for my children's phones through Family in settings, it just freezes. I have figured out a workaround, but it is very annoying. Apple TV app won't even load, just goes to a white screen and freezes. Settings takes forever come up and trying to do anything takes a long time with lagging. And all the while the battery is getting HOT when it never did that before. I have restarted my phone multiple times and have checked for updates for the apps not working, including Apple TV, I have done all the trouble-shooting things and nothings fixes the issues. When is Apple going to fix the multiple problems this update has caused? I have noticed that I am not the only one having issues, this is VERY FRUSTRATING.

Then you may have to consider wiping and restoring from your backup.

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

or

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings using a computer - Apple Support

The iOS 18.3.1 update itself is likely not cause of your issues as tens of millions of users have updated without any problems. Unfortunately in life sometimes things go off the rails for no reason. There may have been an existing glitch on your iPhone that caused the update to go south.

If you are not comfortable with restoring your device by yourself you could contact Apple Support or take the phone to an Apple Store or authorized Apple service provider for assistance.

With me, and in particular with my SE 3, I gotta say I am disappointed. The tapping function (2x / 3x) no longer seems to work, despite being active. Whether for control centre activation or to take a Screenshot, it doesn't work anymore. Interestingly I noted the battery consumption in the background has too, increased. And the other thing among the many here highlighted by unhappy people, is the ability to stream vídeos (YouTube, Netflix, Amazon) sideways on both sides. Now streaming full screen works in one direction, whereas prior to this, you could swing your phone both sides and the screen would adapt to your orientation.

All in all, an important safety update, but at a costly price for other funcional properties.

Please dont be rookies peeps. You can do so much better than this.

very terrible update for my 14pm too… imagine watching a show in youtube or any movie in gmail and then the show has shooting, explosion, blasting and crazy boom sound then suddenly the screen just go dim and i cant see anything for awhile until it starts to finish all those blasting then it lights up a bit again…

second problem is swiping down the phone for easy access control and guess what? its worse than the ios 16 versions which you literally have to add and delete the control and i cant even make it the same way as the ios 16… how can one smartphone company being so professional end up making one of the worse software update in apple history?

and it also has the worst dark mode of all ios time… photo, safari, home screen all just seemed so wrong in every way… i really hope i can go back to my last ios update… ios 18.3.1 is 2/10

Currently, my Apple Journal app actively automatically changes my medication journal hourly recording into formatting mode right after I mark the numbers and either hit space on the iPhone virtual space bar between AM and PM or put a space after those two and start the first writing down notes. Also, if I return later on the same date(s), the messaging automatically turns into format mode, and my hourly records previously written turn on all the hours into numbered bullet points, and when I turn it off, it washes out the previous hour numbers.

I need this resolved as it is integral to my personal healthcare. My primary doctor directed me to utilize an app to take notes, and this was the first thing I saw on my iPhone.

Face ID won’t work either on my iPhone or on my iPad. I went on YouTube to try to fix the issue and nothing works. All I get is a message saying “Face ID is not available”. Even my iPad has a message saying that the display is not working properly and that the display is not genuine when I bought it less than a month ago. I’ve been checking everyday for a new update hoping they will correct the error but nothing.

Any suggestions?

Same here.

I updated my iPhone 13 to iOS 18.3.1 and many issues haven’t been fixed.

Siri doesn’t speak to me, even if preferred spoken responces are on, she just sends me visual responces.

VoiceOver randomly cuts out while reading continuously any Web page that has a video playback view.

I keep getting delayed notifications in some apps.

The list goes on.

How can I fix these issues effectively? Erasing all settings doesn’t fix anything

I’ve also experienced several issues following the iOS 18.3 and 18.3.1 updates, with Maps on my device having no directional audio through CarPlay since the initial 18.3 updates. A far more critical issue that I’ve been working with Apple, my carrier, and ISP over the last few weeks on has been my employer implementing a form of mobile device management on my personal iPhone 13 without my permission. February 25th, 2025 appears to have a security update showing triangulation through iCloud with use of internal home network LAN IP addresses and external VPN connectivity. From what I’ve read, it appears others are able to use the 172.xxx. LAN IP scheme to redirect iPhone internet traffic to a configured VPN tunnel. Would appreciate any additional information on this, as I’ve been dealing with a similar problem for over two months. It began with my employer implementing an AOVPN on my home network.

All of those functions work on my iPhone 15. The phone will not connect to the cellular carrier.

I spent a couple of hours with T-Mobile and Apple technical support. T-Mobile determined it is not a carrier issue. Apple support spent time troubleshooting with a network reset and replacing the eSIM card. I still have no network carrier. Apple support set up an appointment to take it to an authorized Apple repair center. Despite other comments, I found Apple support outstanding.

Oddly, the factory warranty expired on February 8, 2025, just before I updated to iOS 18.3.1. The repair, though, is free, and I bought it using AMEX, extending the warranty another year.
