Apple TV Box - Can an Older Model Still Be Used?
I have an older Apple TV box, Model A1427. Can this still be used or should I pitch it?

That would be the 3rd gen, released in 2012. While the box itself may still work that model worked on a completely different platform and used server based channels to populate the main menu. Most of the 3rd party providers have now dropped support for those, so you would be limited to the version of the Apple TV app that runs on that model and maybe airplay (albeit the original version as airplay 2 is not supported). Due to age you may also encounter more issues sooner rather than later.
My suggestion would be to upgrade. If you don't have the budget for a new box right now you could even get a used 4th gen, that will still have access to the same TVOS platform as the current model and receives the same updates (there may be the odd feature that requires a newer model).
