Why am I unable to access my Apple Account consistently?

Once again I cannot get into my Apple account at https://account.apple.com/sign-in . I just accessed it on February 2nd after a prolonged hassle, but I got in. This has happened nearly every time I try to get in, for years. I am not "locked out" with a message, it just will not accept ANY of my answers to security questions. I KNOW the answers, and I know my password. (I AM able to get into my same account via iTunes, no problem, but it doesn't ask any security questions.) So, (a) why does this keep happening; (b) how do I fix it for good; then, (c) I am trying to get my free trial of Apple Music via the Verizon offer setup - does it use this same Apple ID?

As I said, this has happened consistently for YEARS (through iTunes). I once spent a week going back and forth with support before they figured it out and fixed it, where it worked fine for a few weeks while I worked on iTunes downloads/upgrades, then back to this nonsense. I have been buying music via iTunes since 2005. FWIW, no one has used or accessed my account, no security issues, no unknown purchases.

Why does Apple make this SOO difficult?

Enable two-factor authentication. That blocks access without the password and access to a trusted device, and (after two weeks’ enabled) that also completely removes the security questions. You’ll want to confirm and set a trusted telephone number or two, trusted email addresses, and potentially also a Recovery Contact, when you switch over.

I’ve chased a few of these cases on various services over the years, whether due to password corruptions in iCloud Keychain or otherwise, or due to apps such as mail accounts running with old passwords. Though those usually show failures, which you’re not reporting here.

I’ve also met lockout cases due to caps lock, keyboard language settings, add-on anti-malware issues and failures, and other mundane causes.

If you’re using third-party add-on anti-malware on Microsoft Windows, try switching to the built-in Windows Defender anti-virus, or whatever Microsoft is now calling that. Anti-malware is a good potential culprit when things go weird in any platform. The stuff is arguably malware, with a EULA.

The free Apple Music offer uses whichever Apple Account you’re using, yes.

If you can't reset your security questions and don't have two-factor authentication enabled, you're headed for account recovery again, or have lost control of the Apple Account.

Your Windows install or something else in the local hardware or software is likely corrupted, or is flaky, given all you've been through.

I'd start by entirely removing all add-on anti-malware add-on apps per the vendors' instructions, but I'd fully expect to need to reinstall Windows and apps here, given the persistent issues reported, and given many previous suggestions have clearly failed.

Back when I was running Windows with whichever corporate-mandated add-on anti-malware was then in corporate favor, I'd usually have to reinstall once or twice a year due to something somewhere clobbering something else. I hope that's all gotten better since, but the corruptions were an immense source of frustration for me.

The problem of course is that I can't get IN TO MY ACCOUNT to setup any other security features, which is what keeps happening. Clearly my password works, as it lets me into iTunes and this forum. As always, whenever given the opportunity to reset my security questions, I use (and keep track of, right down to spacing and capitalization) the same answers I use for the same questions elsewhere. Apple NEVER accepts them a second time. Once I log in and get past my password, I try and 'fail' to answer my security questions, then try to reset my security questions and I am right back to square one, getting this message:

Cannot Reset Security Questions

We don’t have sufficient information to reset your security questions.

My A/V is off, and I have tried different browsers.

If I try to go into my account through iTunes, "Edit account at Apple.com" then all I ever get is this:

503 Service Temporarily Unavailable

Apple

...yet I can see my purchases, make new purchases, etc. in iTunes
