  10. If i'm saving a .pdf file can i choose which app or location i can save it to?
  11. Is it true that we can now download apps from third-party sources or apps stores?

Another question that pops to mind is: If i decide to buy an iPhone from a third-party private reseller and they forgot to disable or turn off the "Find my iPhone" feature will that be an issue if i initially set up the phone? Or is there a workaround?

Yes, this would be an issue.

If the phone was associated with someone else's Apple Account, it might already be a "brick" displaying "Locked to Owner" – a sign that it was possibly stolen. Even if it was not on that screen, if

  • The owner of that Apple Account later marked the phone as Lost, or
  • You forgot your passcode and had to reset the phone to get back in

then it would turn into a useless "brick."

There is no workaround. You cannot bypass Activation Lock, and since you would not be the original owner in this scenario, Apple would flat-out refuse to help remove Activation Lock.

Even if the previous owner properly prepared the phone for resale as outlined in

What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

it might be locked to service from a particular carrier (phone company), or be permanently banned by Snapchat or others like them.

  1. When using an app or browser If you tap the top portion of the display does it go to the very top of the page? Not really. You use your finger to swipe up or down to get wherever you want on the page.
  2. When hiding apps can you actually hide or edit the name of the "Hidden apps" folder so it can stay totally hidden? Not really. You can hide an app in the Hidden App Folder, but it will still be the app you hid. Understand if you are concerned someone else may see what apps you've hidden, don't hand them your iPhone.
  3. Can I use Google Wallet on my iPhone? No. But you can use Google Pay. Google Wallet applies to Android phones, not iPhones. You use Apple Wallet on iPhone.
  4. When using Whatsapp or similar apps if i want to send a photo can i do that directly on the app or do i have to go to my photos then upload or share it from there? You give Social Media apps access to your photos in Settings > Privacy & Security. Once you've done that, you tap the photo icon in the app, which will take you to your photos and you choose the photo you want to upload to the app.
  5. When unlocking the phone do i unlock using my face then i can swipe up to open my iPhone? Under most situations, when you unlock your screen, FaceID recognizes your face, then you swipe up to get to your home pages of apps. FaceID is a convenience and does NOT replace the need to remember your 4 or 6 digit passcode as you'll have to enter your passcode if you restart your iPhone, Update Your iPhone, etc.
  6. If using London public transport do i have to open or "wake up" my phone to tap to pay or can i do it whilst the screen is off? I can't answer this. I believe you'll have to open the corresponding app on your iPhone to pay, but again, I'm not in London and don't know how the London transport works.
  7. Can i use the camera to scan QR codes|? And will it open automatically or manually? Yes, you can use the camera to scan QR Codes. Open the camera and face the camera at the QR Code and a box will open, which when tapped will take you where the QR Code leads.
  8. Can i drag n drop a photo and save it under my Photos? Drag and drop a photo from where, exactly? To save a photo, simply hold your finger on the photo and tap Save. It will be saved to your photos.
  9. Can i do a scrolling or full page screenshot on a third-party browser or app? Yes
  10. If i'm saving a .pdf file can i choose which app or location i can save it to? Not really, if you save a PDF, it will save to your Files App.
  11. Is it true that we can now download apps from third-party sources or apps stores? Only in the EU as that is ONLY where 3rd party App Stores are supported. I have no clue whether that applies to the UK as UK is not an EU Country anymore.
  12. Does all iPhones from the 15 to the 16 support a third-party mains charging? All iPhone can be charged with 3rd party chargers. It is usually advisable to use one from a reputable company who assures the charger is Made for iPhone, but I've used many over the years which don't carry the MFi designation, without issue.

I did hear that if you are on Safari or Google Chrome (or a third-party) if you are scrolling down to the bottom of the page and you want to go back to the top you gently tap the upper border of the page and it takes you back to the top fast? This is correct and I just validated it on my iPhone

If your hidden apps is in the Hidden Folder can you also lock the app at the same time? Only if the app permits itself to be locked

Can i use Google Pay as an alternative payment and not being locked into Apple Pay? Is Apple Pay more flexible and easy to use? Apple Pay is so easy to use. You can use whatever payment method you want (NOT Google Wallet), but if you like Google payments so much, why buy an iPhone?

Re Whatsapp or similar, can i choose multiple photos or videos to send to someone? That's dependent more on the 3rd party application

Can I use Face ID even when it's night time or my surroundings is dark like before going to sleep or on a plane? Yes

When using a third-party earbuds do I have to manually connect to my iPhone via bluetooth everytime i turn it on? or will it automatically connect? You pair a 3rd party device once and they auto connect thereafter

Is the Shazam Music Search feature under Control Centre? or is there a faster way to invoke it? Use the App if you don't want to open control center.

Is there a way to remap the camera button on the iPhone 16? No

Is the swipe to type function on the keyboard still available? Yes

How easy is it to sign a .doc or.pdf file sent via email? With Docusign, very easy

Re screenshots Is it possible to take a full page screenshot on Google Chrome? Sure

One of the main reasons I will be getting an iPhone is because of Express Mode to Travel around London and in & out of the UK. I like the convenience and not having to unlock or "wake up" my phone. Because of the nature of my work i would choose convenience and paperless than having paper tickets or Oyster cards.

Another one is tapping the top screen to go back to the top of the page. That for me is an enormous time saver. Those small things i really appreciate in an OS.

Is there a way to record calls now on iOS 18.3.x?

Is there a way to "lock" the camera settings wherein if you close and open up the camera app it remembers your previous settings?

And is it true that 4:3 is the ideal format in taking photos and 16:9 in taking videos?

Do you have to unlock your iPhone to use it? In lower power mode the support article reads like you just tap the phone, no unlocking, no screen coming on etc. So, when the battery is charged, how does it work?

When the battery is charged, you just tap the phone on the reader. No unlocking is necessary. You do see the card pop up on the screen if I recall correctly. It has been my observation that it sometimes fails to work properly if the phone isn't locked. It then seems to want to do FaceID.

According to the tiny print under Settings>Wallet>Express Transit Card, it "may be available when your device needs to be charged."

Thank you for the response. I have more questions if I may:

Can i disable the camera button so i won't be able to accidentally activate it if i'm holding it or in my pocket?

If i'm casting Youtube to a TV will it show as a player on the dynamic island so i can easily pause or move to the next video or move forward or rewind the currently playing video?

After taking a photo or a screenshot can I copy a text or numbers from them?

I usually take short videos mostly in 4K30 and sometimes 1080p60. Do those video recording formats also have a shutter button to take photos? And can I zoom in & out as normal with those aforementioned formats?

Is it possible to swap between the front and rear main cameras whilst recording a video?

Mar 9, 2025 1:58 PM in response to gino76ph

Apple Pay is available at all the same locations as Google Pay. They both use the Tap-To-Pay protocol. Apple Pay is generally considered more secure because of the use of dynamic tokens whereas Google Pay still mostly uses card emulation.

Shazam is a choice for the Action Button. It can also be enabled so if you double tap or triple tap the back of the iPhone Shazam is activated. It appears in the Dynamic Island.

You can take stills in the video modes.

You can copy legible text in photos. The Camera Button can be used for Visual Intelligence to identify objects, summarize and translate text etc.

Zooming may be limited to specific lenses in some video modes.

Cameras can be swapped during recording but screen may momentarily black out to adjust differences in frame rate and resolution etc.

Yes when I use AirPlay to my LG TV, to view YouTube, I can access the app (YouTube) via Dynamic Island and use the apps controls.

No offense, but I'm going to suggest you go to your Apple Store and try out the features on a floor model. I'm not your personal research assistant. I'm a user like you're a user. I volunteer my time to help users like many others do here. But you keep asking question after question and I think it would be better at this point if you stop by an Apple Store.

I agree with the comment above. iPhone is different than Android. I've never owned an Android and have no plans of ever owning an Android. I'm heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem and all of my devices, from phone, to tablet, to watch to computer are ALL Apple. I'm sure people who own Androids are more than happy enough with them. And there's nothing wrong with that. iPhone is an amazing phone. But you can't compare it feature for feature to an Android.

I wish you luck with wherether this leads you.
