Android user asks about useful iOS features

As an Android user i wanted to ask:

  1. When using an app or browser If you tap the top portion of the display does it go to the very top of the page?
  2. When hiding apps can you actually hide or edit the name of the "Hidden apps" folder so it can stay totally hidden?
  3. Can I use Google Wallet on my iPhone?
  4. When using Whatsapp or similar apps if i want to send a photo can i do that directly on the app or do i have to go to my photos then upload or share it from there?
  5. When unlocking the phone do i unlock using my face then i can swipe up to open my iPhone?
  6. If using London public transport do i have to open or "wake up" my phone to tap to pay or can i do it whilst the screen is off?
  7. Can i use the camera to scan QR codes|? And will it open automatically or manually?
  8. Can i drag n drop a photo and save it under my Photos?
  9. Can i do a scrolling or full page screenshot on a third-party browser or app?
  10. If i'm saving a .pdf file can i choose which app or location i can save it to?
  11. Is it true that we can now download apps from third-party sources or apps stores?
  12. Does all iPhones from the 15 to the 16 support a third-party mains charging?

Would love to hear from you. Many Thanks.

Another question that pops to mind is: If i decide to buy an iPhone from a third-party private reseller and they forgot to disable or turn off the "Find my iPhone" feature will that be an issue if i initially set up the phone? Or is there a workaround?

Yes, this would be an issue.

If the phone was associated with someone else's Apple Account, it might already be a "brick" displaying "Locked to Owner" – a sign that it was possibly stolen. Even if it was not on that screen, if

  • The owner of that Apple Account later marked the phone as Lost, or
  • You forgot your passcode and had to reset the phone to get back in

then it would turn into a useless "brick."

There is no workaround. You cannot bypass Activation Lock, and since you would not be the original owner in this scenario, Apple would flat-out refuse to help remove Activation Lock.

Even if the previous owner properly prepared the phone for resale as outlined in

What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

it might be locked to service from a particular carrier (phone company), or be permanently banned by Snapchat or others like them.

Doesn’t iPhone use lower power mode for Express Transit? If the battery is dead or extremely low, you just tap to pay. I was under the impression Express Transit works that way all the time.

I don’t live near a system that supports it, to try it out. Do you have experience with it?

I always use Express Transit. But I've never had to use it when the battery was dead or extremely low.

If you're still talking about using your phone on the Underground then my only thoughts are that I can't understand why people bother with it. I've never used my phone on the Underground. I buy paper tickets or use an Oyster card.
Because it's one less thing to have to carry and keep track of. The transit system in the city where I live doesn't offer tickets or tokens anymore. You can pay cash or use a card that I assume is similar to an Oyster card. Or you can use the phone you probably already have in your hand or pocket.

It also obviates the need to log into the transit website to keep track of balances or make sure that the auto-replenishment information is up-to-date.

To keep it simple, I use my Watch 😏

If I lived in London, I probably would. However, here in the land of left hand drive, they seem to want to put the pay terminals to the right when you get on the bus. I wear my watch on my left wrist and the reaching across my body and twisting my arm is uncomfortable. As it is, I need to stretch my right arm out a fair it to reach the terminal.

Now if my lovely Oura ring could just be used for tap to pay......

So, is what multiple user manuals say,

”When Express Mode is enabled, the user will still be able to lock/unlock and start the vehicle for up to 5 hours after the iPhone battery has run out. However, if Express mode has been disabled, or the user has manually turned off your iPhone, Digital Key will not work.”

Transit Authorities say the same thing on their support sites as well.

That is very good to know as I rarely have the exact change for the $2.50 fare.

My car is a 2013 model and I bought my smart door lock just a bit too early.

I am extremely mindful of where to buy from whom anywhere - be it eBay, Apple, Samsung, High-street shop, etc. The good thing about being a long time reseller (and buyer) is i have learned so much on what to ask and what information I need from them if it was a used/second-hand device.

If an iPhone 16 Plus refurbished on the Apple Store now I would buy it in a heartbeat. But so fare there are none as it's a fairly new device.
