Mystery photos appearing in camera roll

When searching my camera roll on my iPad Pro 13” M4 for a picture I discovered that there were over 50 photos saved there in the past week. I have never seen these photos before and I never saved them. The look like they have come from the Internet from sites/topics I find offensive. I have deleted them but this is the second time it has happened. Does anyone know how this is happening and what I can do about it?

No, the new AI tools do not generate photos and add them to your Photos Library, unless you launch tools like Image Playground or similar yourself to create images according to your specification.

Have you checked, if the same photos are appearing in your Messages? Photos can show you images that have been shared with you in Messages. You can turn this off, as described here: Use Shared with You on your iPhone and iPad – Apple Support (UK)
