What HP all in one home printers work best with iMac M4?

I need to replace my old Canon MX 922 printer (print, scan, fax, color, 2-sided, can do photos). It looks like the HP Envy Inspire 7220e is well liked by Mac users. HP says it is discontinued and recommends 7255e.

Does anyone have experience with these printers on an iMac M4? I'm running it on Sequoia.

Thanks!

Welcome!

I've had no issue with one model of HP being more "Mac-firendly" than others, and we've been through a lot of HP multifunctions. However, Mac-compability is not why we don't do HP any more.

Rather it was:

  • ink consumption—I was spending too much time on Amazon ordering expensive HP refill cartridges.
  • clogged heads—those killed pretty much every HP we've had. We only used genuine HP cartridges. HP does not offer repair parts or clogged-head kits for what they consider "household printers"
  • HP's self-maintenance routines—in every one I've used, those routines seem to start at the instant I need the printer the most, not during idle times. It's better in newer models but still there.

To avoid those annoyances in the future, we now use an Epson EcoTank. It's been in service at least two years on one filling of ink and we've had only one clogged head instance which cleared in minutes with standard maintenance. Ours is the ET-3850 model with ethernet connectivity because I like to network our printers. However our iDevices are all quite happy printing to it wirelessly as well. I've not found one thing that is disappointed me, and I'm picky about printers function.

The ET-3850 is current supporting five Macs with OS versions between 10.13 and 15.4; three iPads; and two iPhones.

I now admit that when Mrs AJ insisted we look at the EcoTank, I was more than skeptical. Today, I'm a believer. She found it on sale at Costco.

That Canon MX 922 printer is AirPrint compatible and should work with your new M4 iMac.

see > About AirPrint - Apple Support

If there is something else wrong with the Canon MX 922 or you're tired of paying for expensive ink cartridges.

Then I recommend going with an Epson Eco-Tank printer instead of an HP printer.

Compare the different Epson Eco-Tank models and look for a sale at Best Buy, Staples, Target or Costco.

Here is some background on the choice: Which Printer Should I Buy? - Apple Community

HP recently bricked some of their own printers for using HP cartridges, among other issues the brand has had.

Local preference is Brother, not HP.

Whatever printer you pick, you absolutely want AirPrint. You may also want IPP/IPPS support, particularly if you’re using Mac or Windows or other equipment. But you want AirPrint.
