Why is my MacBook Air overheating while using YouTube or browsing the web?

Watching videos is a high workload activity on any computer. Some web pages are very resource hungry. The harder the CPU and GPU must work, the more heat those components add to the total. It's the same as an old 3-way incandescent light bulb that feels hotter when run on its highest brightness setting than on a lower setting.


Your physical workspace arrangment has a lot ot do with heat management. This Apple article points out things and actions to avoid:


Keep your Mac laptop within acceptable operating temperatures - Apple Support


We do not know which Macbook Air you have. More recent ones have no cooling fans, making high temps more common with heavy tasks.


Software interferences can also affect operating temps. If you want a data-driven evaluation in this setting where we can neither see nor touch your computer, please post an EtreCheck report.
