iCloud Drive corrupted all the files on my MacBook Air

I'm a Data Scientist who works on side projects outside of work often. I've been using Icloud Drive to store all of my files for a while but it has always been slow and had issues. Today, my Icloud Drive crashed my computer over and over for 3 hours. It got to the point where I had to build an alternate user and kill a bunch of files and wipe any trace of icloud from my computer through the alternate user and terminal. A 3 hour process to get it to just stop freezing my computer upon restarts.

I finally sat back down to do work only to find out that - another issue - ICloud had failed to backup for a few nights so I lost 4 days worth of files that I spent many hours coding. The files/repositories that I managed to save were even worse - all of the git files and database files became corrupt and were lost.
