Why does the Instagram app flash and return to the Home Screen on iPhone?

I downloaded the Instagram app. When I try to open it, it flashes and goes back to the home screen. The icon for IG isn’t the typical but a white square with lines. I’ve deleted the white square and tried downloading again but the App Store says I’ve already downloaded the app and wants me to ‘open’.

I’ve restarted my phone, hard reset, I have sufficient memory, updated iOS, deleted the app and restarted my phone but the app reappears

I’m not sure what else to try.
