In the top left corner of my screen here, where it says “not playing” there was a website of some sort that read “2mdn.net”. i’m scared it’s some sort of hack as one website says it is.

I read your question. It is very possible that the VPN caused the issue. Your iPhone is not hacked, and that is not easily accomplished unless someone has extended physical possession of your iPhone with your Apple Account and password and your iPhone's passcode. Unless you have a requirement to have a VPN for work or school, I would remove it.
It was from a website that was playing audio from an advertisement. The domain 2mdn.net is associated with Google's ad services network. It does not mean you were visiting that website, it was just the source where the audio was coming from.

You did not get hacked and no spyware was installed. Sound was playing and that is all that was indicated on your phone. There are no executable applications that can be installed on your phone from a website, so you do not need to worry about that.
That would be the top right corner. And, it would be a website that you visited that was playing content.
The image below your Bluetooth image on the left side of the screen looks like some type of network image. Do you have a VPN on your device, since that icon depicts a VPN connection. Is your device managed by your work? Do you have a MDM managing the device?

Actually, you said you have vpns turned off, not removed or not installed. From that statement I assumed you had a vpn that was not active at the time.

My fault, i thought having it turned off would be the same. No, I don’t have any vpns though haha.
