Amazon app cause iPhone to overheat

Within last week or so I’ve noticed that once I open Amazon app my phone becomes running hot within  minutes. I’m was on iOS 18.5, using iPhone 15 Pro haven’t updated Amazon app in a long while but even after updating to latest version phone is still running 100% CPU throttle as soon as I open Amazon app.

Even worse is that really hard to get any support from Amazon in regards to app issues whatsoever. There is no such support topic in support system to report problems with app. And even though AppStore you can’t report quality issues because on reportproblem.apple.com website it’s stated “reporting not available”.

I even called amazon to let them know about this problem, after agent took my info and statement she put me on hold and in 5 minutes they dropped my call. Posting here in attempt to get some attention to the issue.

Absolute nightmare to get any support in regard to problems with Amazon Shopping app.

I got some updates.

I’ve deleted and reinstalled app version 25.12.0

after re-installing I’ve noticed that Rufus Ai button is gone, and I wasn’t be able to find it anywhere.

my phone does not run 100% cpu in amazon app as soon as I opened it.

phone is still getting noticeably warm from extensive use of app. But now at least I can hold my phone comfortably.

i think iPhone 15 pro have more cpu efficiency and thermal capacity to handle amazon app, I think it’s possible that’s other iPhones still may get very hot just of poor app optimization.

for now overheating issue is gone for me. Thank you all for your feedback and input to amazon and apples support teams.

Let’s define “overheating”, which is always a hardware problem. If a device overheats it shuts down so it can’t be used, and displays a message saying it must cool down before it can be turned on, and it will probably be unusable for an hour or so. If you are seeing this it is a hardware problem and you should contact Apple support:

Note that both of the above have options to receive a callback or chat

If you are not seeing this your iPhone or iPad has not overheated. However, if you fast charge your device it may get very warm, and may pause charging at 80% and display a message saying that charging has paused, and will resume when the phone cools down. This is NOT overheating, and is normal when fast charging. It also won’t prevent you from using any app you have on your phone.

Some apps that use a lot of energy or that use cellular data rather than Wi-Fi can cause the phone to run warmer. Worst offenders are Meta products (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc), interactive games, watching streaming videos, and the Camera app. And having VPN installed, whether using it or not, can also consume a lot of energy. But none of these can cause “overheating”; iOS will limit energy use to keep the phone safe.

Back to your regular programming. I just tested the Amazon app, the latest version, 25.10.0 , if left open, does appear to use a lot of energy and make the iPhone warm. That version was released 3 weeks ago. I don’t usually use the app for more than a few minutes at a time, so I didn’t notice until I saw your post. And Rufus is pretty lame, not worth anything as far as I can see. I know what I want before I go to Amazon, and I’m in the app less than a minute.

So I am NOT losing my mind. The heat starts almost immediately and it crushes your battery life. Review left on App Store. Hopefully they are watching it. Every single patch they release, the notes are the exact same. They cut and paste the “changes” they made; just marketing-speak. No actual insights to what issue was addressed.

Don’t depend on Amazon reading reviews, but tell them directly:   ios-feedback@amazon.com. Everyone reading this thread should send feedback to get Amazon’s attention.

I’ve noticed the exact same thing. Only the Amazon app does it. I can use any other app including Call of Duty which I would think would cause more heat for hours without overheating. Within minutes of opening Amazon my iPhone 16 Pro is too hot to touch.

You might want to try either not using the AI or accessing Amazon through Safari (or your favorite browser).

Posting here may give Apple reason to reach out to Amazon and let them know their app is having an unintended and harmful effect on their customers’ devices. Apple’s terms of service for the App Store certainly allow Apple to take apps down if they are harmful to users or their devices. Apple has a substantially better likelihood of getting a response from Amazon as opposed to the few Amazon customers who take the time to complain.
