Is it possible to skip password for app updates on my iPhone SE?

On my iphone and iPad the settings are set to 'require a password to download apps'.

Now, eventhough auto updates are selected on, my devices do not update, unless I

actively prompt an update and then I also have to insert my password.

Is this logical or just ridiculous? In the past it would update without any need for passwords.
