For a while my wireless keyboard was not being recognized by the iMac unless I had it plugged in and charging on startup. Now, on boot up, it won’t recognize the keyboard at all so I can’t log in. I don’t have another keyboard to hardwire in, how do I fix this? I charged the wireless keyboard up directly from a power source and rebooted, and it still won’t recognize it.
It doesn’t have to be an Apple branded keyboard. Any inexpensive USB wired keyboard will do. It’s a good idea to keep both a wired keyboard and a wired mouse on hand for troubleshooting wireless issues just like yours.
I would get another cheap wired keyboard and see if you can log in. Perhaps you have a faulty cable and/or keyboard. Never hurts to have a backup wired mouse and keyboard just in case. I do..

I would be happy to do that but I can’t get past the log in page without the keyboard to enter my info. Is there a way to bypass that? Otherwise, I’m stuck at the log in screen. The mouse works, the keyboard, no.
Thanks, I live in a rural area, no Apple Store or supplier within a 2 hours drive that has one in stock. Was hoping to have a simple solution, but guess I’ll have to invest in a new wired keyboard for an under warranty iMac. In the meantime I can’t work. Great way to start the week I’d say. This is my 3rd iMac, new issue for me.
