That's a good indication that you bought a device that was refurbished by an unauthorized party. It doesn't have a warranty and it's unlikely Apple would service it at all if it needs repair. It also has zero trade in value with Apple.

KiltedTim is correct. If you open Settings > General > About > Model - if it starts with a number like 3 or 5 as opposed to a letter, the phone you own was refurbished and has no warranty with Apple at all.
