How do I switch back to the old keyboard in iOS 26?

I find the new keyboard harder to type on, can I switch to the old one? I’ve had iphones since the iPhone 4, never had this problem beofre.

I keep mistaking , the enter and the delete button, I do not like this new keyboard. I would like to switch back to the previous one.

You can't do that. If the native iOS keyboard doesn't work for you, there are loads of 3rd party keyboards in the App Store you could try.

The keys are closer together. If you look at both screen shots you can see that the Q and P reach the edge of the screen. They don’t in the new one. This is probably why I have more typos on the keys close to the sides.

  2. Look for third-party keyboards in the App Store that better meet your needs.
  3. Recognize that you will adapt.

Actually, they are different. The one that it looks like now is 1. Lighter, 2. Smaller in width and longer in length, and 3. It’s missing the word ‘space’ on the spacebar which can confuse people and the uppercase is different because the white is inside the arrow and not outside like it used to be.

Bottom line? Confused or not they cannot go back. They need to learn to adapt and become unconfused.

What keyboard style and language are you referring to? Something other than QWERTY or English?

What’s different about the iOS 26 keyboard that makes it harder to type on? On my iPhone 16 Pro it looks just like the previous iOS 18 keyboard except for some minor cosmetic changes like rounded corners.

As far as I know there is no option to return to a previous version of the keyboard.

These two screenshots have both been scaled down the same amount, both taken in messages on the same iPhone, and have not been modified at all.

Take a look closely.

As I have drawn with the ruler in screenshot, the width is the same.

As for the height, the keys are longer, by about 5 pixels on your screen. That would only make it easier for you.

As I have confirmed, The keys are not smaller. If you are struggling to see things in general this update, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Make sure Reduce Transparency is off. Only have Increase Contrast on, making it the same colours as before.

It’s a shame you have to sacrifice Reduce Transparency as that makes the background closer to the colour of the keys.

My issue is on iPadOS 26 and it’s that the “[]” and “{}” keys are reversed s to which is the un-shifted nd which is the shifted.i know; sounds like it’s trivial, it if those characters re in usernames or passwords on other systems, it’s real annoying. However, for this issue, I did find a work-around a; the QYWERTY-ISO layout has the keys in their old places.it has other differences that don’t bother me, such as the return key is narrower horizontally, but covers two rows vertically; that doesn’t bother me. I’ve never gotten used to/good at touch typing on a keyboard with no tactile feedback. I even hate membrane keyboards, which is what most are.

What annoys me most about the change is that I don’t know the reason why it was done and it doesn’t make sense. All the real keyboards I’ve used (OK, not a huge number, but including Apple’s own Magic Keyboards as well as other Apple keyboards) have them in the older arrangement (“[]” are unshifted), so if you sometimes use the Magic Keyboard and other times the on-screen one, it’s different.

Do you think that people are going to forget the purpose of the key that isn't shaped like any other key on a keyboard.... because Apple stopped labeling it? That sounds a lot like saying if there is no exit sign over your front door, people might not know how to get out of their house.

I knew someone who was beyond upset because they bought a new car and there's no place to insert the key to start the engine. They claimed they could NEVER adjust to a Start Button on the dash. Threads like this continue to amuse as some people simply cannot adjust to change.
