How do I switch back to the old keyboard in iOS 26?

What is the difference in the keyboards? I can’t tell

The new keys are absolutely narrower than previously. I’ve never misspelled this much before 26 dropped. And what makes it even worse is autocorrect somehow got worse as well.

How overdue are you for your next eye exam?

As I have confirmed, The keys are not smaller. If you are struggling to see things in general this update, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Make sure Reduce Transparency is off. Only have Increase Contrast on, making it the same colours as before.

It’s a shame you have to sacrifice Reduce Transparency as that makes the background closer to the colour of the keys.

My issue is on iPadOS 26 and it’s that the “[]” and “{}” keys are reversed s to which is the un-shifted nd which is the shifted.i know; sounds like it’s trivial, it if those characters re in usernames or passwords on other systems, it’s real annoying. However, for this issue, I did find a work-around a; the QYWERTY-ISO layout has the keys in their old places.it has other differences that don’t bother me, such as the return key is narrower horizontally,but covers two rows vertically; that doesn’t bother me. I’ve never gotten used to/good at touch typing on a keyboard with no tactile feedback. I even hate membrane keyboards, which is what most are.

What annoys me most about the change is that I don’t know the reason why it was done and it doesn’t make sense. All the real keyboards I’ve used (OK, not a huge number, but including Apple’s own Magic Keyboards as well as other Apple keyboards) have them in the older arrangement (“[]” are unshifted), so if you sometimes use the Magic Keyboard and other times the on-screen one, it’s different.

You can't do that. If the native iOS keyboard doesn't work for you, there are loads of 3rd party keyboards in the App Store you could try.
