iPhone 17 Pro Max – Static / hissing noise from speaker while charging

I’ve noticed a strange issue on my iPhone 17 Pro Max and I’d like to know if anyone else can reproduce it.

When the phone is plugged in and charging, if you play some audio (for example a song, an Instagram Reel, or TikTok), turn the volume all the way down to mute, and then put your ear close to the bottom speaker, you can hear a faint static, buzzing, or hissing noise, similar to the sound of an old radio.

I’ve tested this with both an official Apple cable and charger, and the issue is still present. This sound can also be heard even when no audio is playing, although it’s a bit quieter in that case.

I’m curious if this is a widespread issue or specific to my device.

Hello everyone,

Also my brand new 17 pro max 512 make a grey noise when plugged in and I open the camera app.

I contacted a senior support engineer in apple using the official channel into the apple support app.

They called me and completed a full hardware diagnostics.

They tell me that Apple is aware of the issue and they are working to release a software update (by diagnostics there isn’t hardware fault).

Apple ask you to choose, wait for a software update or replace the phone (I rejected this solution, because of software issue. Also the replaced phone may have same noise problems).

My case is still open, and if the future software update doesn’t work they recall me for other options.

I swear these information are useful for the community :)

so… waiting the next buggyiOS26 release ;)

I spent several hours with the support team over the past two weeks, but I received no feedback regarding the issue. They repeatedly asked me the same questions, requested photos and videos of the problem, and connected to my phone via screen share to conduct a thorough diagnostic. Despite their efforts, it appears that they are completely unaware of the cause of the problem. During the last call, they informed me that the ticket was escalating, and they scheduled a follow-up call today to finally give me a feedback. I will keep you updated as soon as I receive a call from them.

I received a call from support a few minutes ago, but unfortunately, I have not received any responses. They have requested another diagnostic file and a video of the issue. At this point, I believe they are uncertain about the next steps or the nature of the problem. They have scheduled another call with me for next Thursday to provide feedback. In my opinion, we should not expect a resolution in 26.1 as the issue has not been addressed yet.

Let me share my update: Apple support reached out to me multiple times, took several videos, and performed diagnostics, but they didn’t provide any meaningful feedback. Today, my local Apple Store confirmed that iOS 26.1 doesn’t resolve these issues. Apple has received numerous tickets for this problem and is still investigating it. It appears that all 17 Pro units have the camera noise, and the only hope is that future updates will filter out this noise and prevent it from being recorded in videos taken by the device.

Same with me, and my $3000 iPhone 17 Pro Max 1TB.

I’ve noticed the is for some time but didn’t gave it much attention, but now I searched the web and it seems like many people, if not everyone has it.

Anyway, I just submitted feedback with the problem…and maybe something will be done.

My iPhone only produces static from the bottom speaker, when connected to power via the included USB-C cable and an original Apple 20W USB-C wall adapter.

When I plug out the iPhone from charging the noise stops…at least that’s good. 😀😀😀😀

To be honest it’s not that bad…but I bet my money or everyone’s money didn’t made any static. 😭Our money was perfect…oh well.

Anyway, as long as my iPhone doesn’t go up in flames along with my home and me, because of this weird static… it’s ok and I can live with it. I don’t like it and it’s not right, but it’s not like Apple cares too much.

And I’m not in the mood to get a replacement and start moving all my 300GB of personal data again to a new iPhone. Even if they gave me the new one for a day, to move everything to it.

What a mess. 🏆

I have this same issue.

I also notice that if I take a video on my 17PM while it is charging, the microphones pick up the static pretty easily. You can hear it when the volume is turned all the way up and you are watching the video playback.

And when I put the phone on a MagSafe or wireless charger and take a video, and then play it back, it makes a different static noise, more like a constant coil whine.

Can anyone please respond and let me know if you are experiencing the same when taking videos while it is on charge? I know it's not a common use case, but I just want to make sure I am not the only one with this issue.

@MakeReal unfortunately, you probably won't get any new information from them. They'll simply ask for the device's serial number and whether you have the latest iOS 26.1 update. I tried asking if, since the previous device had been taken for testing and disassembly, I would receive any updates - the answer was no. The only suggestion I received from Apple Advisor was that it strongly suggests a software issue, but if it's a hardware issue, Apple may consider this normal behavior due to the phone's technical design.

It's also worth noting that in some regions (in my case EU), the waiting time for a replacement model is 2-3 weeks. This is how long you could potentially be without a device.

what I also notice is that if you hear a podcast or something that has moments of silence on level 1 volume, you I’ll also hear the static! And I’m not even charging my phone. Try this please.

They changed their speaker location like a noob company and now you buy an expensive phone that works like a xiomi from 2015. But never mind, they now made a 200 dollars sock to put your iPhone in, nobody cares about this.

Hello everyone, I hope you’re doing well.

I purchased a silver iPhone 17 Pro Max, 512GB, ZAA model. It has been about two weeks.

When I plug it in to charge and use the phone at the same time, I hear a faint noise coming from the bottom speaker. This noise becomes more noticeable during web browsing and in some apps.

I’m not sure whether this is a common issue or not.

If you have a professional microphone, place it near the USB-C charging port (next to the speaker) and listen—you should be able to hear it.

I still don’t know whether it’s a software issue or a hardware problem.

I’ve already tried changing the cable and charger, but it didn’t help.

I also did several restores, but nothing changed.

Have any of you experienced something similar?

Strange in what way? Was the manager speaking about both issues or just the speaker? Cameras do make a very slight audible noise. I was told some time ago, it was a sort of calibration process. I’m not sure that still applies. I never gave it any thought because the cameras function properly.

The speaker issue is resolved for some users while others are still reporting the issue. Some have found it was a third party app issue and not something Apple would be responsible for.

The issue is still present; the 26.3.1 update hasn't fixed it yet

for me. As I mentioned, there are 3 bugs

1. The sound from the old radio comes out of the left speaker when the phone is plugged into a power source

2. Sound generally comes only from the left speaker; there is no sound at all from the right one

3. Sound from the rear speaker when you open the camera
