iPhone locked with another Apple ID, received extortion message demanding payment

Hello, I need help with my iPhone.

I mistakenly signed out of my own Apple ID and then signed in with another Apple ID (*********7@icloud.com). After following the on-screen instructions, the device entered Lost Mode and displayed a scary message:

"Your phone is HACKED! The phone is completely LOCKED! You cannot sign out unless you pay 15,000 KZT. After payment I will give you all passwords to unlock."

I did not pay. The phone is now stuck on the Activation Lock screen.

Details:

  • Device: iPhone X
  • Serial Number: ********
  • IMEI 353*********
  • I do not have the original receipt, but I still have the original box with the serial number.
  • I also own an iPad linked to my own Apple ID.

Thank you for your guidance.

You fell for a scam, and your phone is now essentially a brick.

I don't know if the scammers told you a sob story of needing to temporarily use your phone, or if they offered you access to things you could not access for yourself, "if only" you logged into their Apple Account. (Those are two common ways scammers fool people into logging into scammer accounts.)

Your phone is not "HACKED!", but it is "LOCKED!", and since it is in Lost Mode and you don't have original proof of purchase documentation, Apple will not consider requests to unlock it. Paying the ransom that these extortionists want would be a very bad idea, because you would be rewarding criminals and because you can't trust them. Even if you paid, they might leave the phone locked, or extort more money out of you to release their hold on it.

Looks like you may soon be in the market for a new phone.

Without the original receipt, you're pretty much out of luck.
