Support Needed – WhatsApp Calling Issue on iPhone 15 after iOS 26 Update

I’m facing an issue since a week with my iPhone 15 after updating to iOS 26. The problem is specifically with WhatsApp calling. Some of the other apps also are not functioning properly. A colleague in my office is also facing same issue with WhatsApp.

  • I can send WhatsApp messages and receive calls, but I’m unable to make calls.
  • The error message says: “Unable to initiate call, please try again.”

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

  1. Restarted the phone
  2. Offloaded and reinstalled WhatsApp
  3. Deleted and reinstalled WhatsApp
  4. Reset network settings
  5. Checked WhatsApp permissions (mic, camera, contacts, etc.)

Since none of these worked, I contacted local IT support. They advised me to visit the Apple Store. The store backed up my data to iCloud, reset the phone, and restored it—but the issue still remains. Now Apple store is asking me to contact WhatsApp support. I feel this is an issue with IOS. I asked store to downgrade the IOS but they denied saying it cannot be done.

Today, I have even updated IOS 26.0.1, and the issue still remains.

I’m not sure how to proceed further in resolving this.

Finally, I could fix the issue. Thanks to Apple Support L4 team. I contacted Apple Support directly. They resolved the issue and shared an important point:

  1. If a management profile is active on the phone, it can block the complete installation of iOS updates.
  2. This was the root cause of the problems I faced.

Fix:

  1. Remove the management profile before installing any iOS update.
  2. Install the update fully.
  3. Reinstall the management profile after 24 hours (to ensure the update completes in the background).

After following this, my phone, calls, and WhatsApp are all back to normal. Apple Support advised me not to reinstall the management profile for 24 hours, as any pending updates to the software may need that time to complete. I will wait for 24 hours before reinstalling the management profile 🙂.

I thought it’s important to share this so that none of you face the same issue. If you are already experiencing similar problems, please try the steps above

To Apple Team - You must educate your team at stores on some of these steps that can be followed. This will avoid simply erasing phone data every time a problem is observed.

Thanks. For the past week, I wasn’t able to make calls at all. Since yesterday, I’m able to make calls occasionally, but most of the time I still get the error. Even when the call goes through, the audio quality isn’t clear. All of this has started only after the latest iOS update. I also installed WhatsApp on my Surface Book, and the calls there work smoothly without any issues.
