iPhone 17 Pro Max extremely slow Wi-Fi and unstable.

We have 3 16 Pro Max iPhones in the house, so I have something to compare to. All connect to the Wi-Fi under 6 GHz with expected speed. Connecting my new 17 Pro Max to the same Wi-Fi router, Internet speed is unacceptable. Extremely slow cuts in and out have done everything possible, including a fresh install resetting everything with the same results. I believe that Apple‘s new M1 chip has an issue. Hope it’s not hardware-related. I was on the phone yesterday to an advanced senior tech that agreed the speed was not acceptable. It seems that I cannot connect to 6 GHz no matter what.  Anybody else?

I turned off the iCloud privare relay and my wifi is way more reliable and faster than before. downside is now everyone can see what I do on the internet.

I have the same problem when I switched to iPhone 17. Upload speed is only half of the download speed for new phone, but older phone with no such an issue. After trying to reboot phone and router multiple times, even reset WiFi network, but still the same.

I finally solve this problem by prioritizing new phone in WiFi app, now upload and download speed look beautifully. So this may not be hardware issue but software issue. Hopefully Apple will fix this in later version of IOS 26

No solution, as far as I'm aware. I've done a lot of looking around online and essentially it seems that the new wifi radio in the 17 series doesn't work very well with some networks that aren't Wifi 6 or 7. It's no better in iOS 26.1, and I've seen nothing to suggest that the iOS 26.2 betas have fixed it.

Mine starts off fine after a restart, but then slows down after a day or so, until I restart the phone again. I have just restarted it again now to sort it out. Each of these speed test results shows the speed before and then directly after a restart, in the same location (my maximum is 150 Mbps, and I'm one room away from the router).

I haven't bothered contacting Apple Support because even if they replace the phone, I suspect the replacement will behave in exactly the same way.

Your SNR is excellent, and Wi-Fi gear looks to be Wi-Fi 5 or later.

Unless “every other device works fine” is using the same Wi-Fi revision and the same channels and the same chipset, it’s useful for ruling out some cases such as ISP outages, but less useful for predicting whether different clients will also work. Or not work.

Are things working better on different Wi-Fi networks from a different ISP? Because whether this is an Apple issue or a problem with the router or local interference is still unclear.

It’s really difficult to test on other networks because of the nature of the problem - it starts off fine but then the speed drops over a number of hours or days. It’s rare I’d be on another network long enough for the issue to present itself. And of course, for a lot of other networks, I wouldn’t know what the speed is supposed to be.

I stayed at my mum’s for a few days earlier in the month and experienced the very same issue. This info is of limited use because she has the same ISP and router as me, but I’d say that means it’s not local interference.

The reason it appears (to me, with very limited knowledge of these things) is that in addition to not experiencing this slowdown on other devices, a restart of the phone solves it instantly, but only temporarily. I can be getting 15Mb/s, and no matter what I do at that point (disconnecting, switching off the wifi etc), the speed will never improve. But when I restart the phone, sitting in the exact same place, I immediately get over 100Mb/s again.

I’ve tried forgetting the wifi network, and I’ve even reset the network settings on the phone. But nothing has helped.

I’m having the same issue. We don’t have the fastest broadband - it’s 150Mbps, and all other devices are working fine, as did my 13 Pro.

My 17 Pro keeps dropping to speeds like 20Mbps. When I restart the phone, it works normally and I get speeds over 100Mbps, but by the end of the day it’s dropped right down again.

This hasn’t been resolved in 26.0.1 and I think I’m going to need to contact Apple about it.

Yeah, I’m really disappointed. All of my other devices work fine except for the brand new phone. If I restart it, I’ll get full wifi speed, but by the end of the day it’ll have dropped to about 15Mb/s, and only a restart will fix it. I’ve already restarted this phone more times than I did with my old phone during the entire ownership period.

I would like to think it’ll be fixed in 26.1 but I’m not hopeful at all.

My Wife and I upgraded from iPhone 15 pro’s and never had an issue. With the new iPhone 17 pro’s we have unreliable speeds and constant drop outs.

I have spent hours with our isp trying to sort this out, but we believe it is a device hardware issue.

It is unbelievably frustrating. Hoping Apple are looking into a solution or device swap program to sort this.

Same issue and no, private relay is not active. I have my 16 pro and my 17 pro max sitting right next to each other on the same Wi-Fi network and run the speed test at the same time. iPhone 17 Pro Max is consistently 4 times slower. Here is the very best result from the 17 Pro Max that I was able to achieve within a few minutes of the average test on the 16 Pro. This is right after restarting the device

iPhone 17 Pro Max extremely slow Wi-Fi and unstable.
