Request for Help Recovering My iCloud Account

Dear Apple Support Team,

Two days ago, my unlocked iPhone was stolen with my iCloud account signed in. Since then, it appears that the thieves have locked my account and changed my trusted phone number. or is a number I had more than 10 years ago. When I try to recover access, I am asked to verify a number ending in 83, which I have never owned or have no idea what the number is.

I have contacted Apple Support, but they told me that without access to this number, I cannot recover my account. I’m feeling extremely sad and worried because this account contains more than 15 years of memories, photos, and personal data.

Please, if there is any possible way to verify my identity and recover access to my iCloud account, I would be deeply grateful. I can provide identification or proof of ownership of the iCloud account if needed.

Thank you very much for your understanding and support.

There is no way to prove ownership of an iCloud account as there is no positive identification used to create one. You can prove ownership of a device, but that does not mean you own the account that is signed in on that device. If that was the case, you could sell or give your device to someone else and claim ownership of the device through purchase documentation and be able to access their personal information.

Also with them having access to your iPhone when it is unlocked, there is nothing stopping them from deleting all your pictures and your personal data. They will never be able to remove your account to set the device up as theirs because that would require the Apple Account password that they should not have. As long as you had Find My turned on, if they attempt to reset the device they will be meant with a screen saying the phone is locked to the owner and will be completely unusable to them without the Apple Account password.

Account Recovery may be a possibility and it does not require access to the Trusted Phone number. There is a delay in resetting the password using this method and it may take a week or more. It does not work 100% of the time depending on the information you can provide, but is worth a shot.
