My Apple Maps does not have the Always option for location services. I can only set it to While Using, which means that I have to keep the app open in order to get directions. I recently got a new iPhone (16e, iOS 26.0) and my previous phone didn't have this issue. How can I fix this?

While Using is the correct option to have for Apple Maps and it will not have the Always option. When getting directions your phone is using Maps in the background, so that is not the cause of the problem you are experiencing.
Do you possibly have a VPN installed?
Do you have Background App Refresh turned on for Maps at Settings > General > Background App Refresh?
