Unable to move app from a folder back to home screen

I click on the app and hold it till it shakes -like I’ve always done but when I try to drag it out it goes right back into the folder. I have plenty of space/storage on my phone. I use to do it all the time and never had issues. I accidentally got some apps into a “folder” and I am trying to move them back to where they were. Any help?
