best practices for recording video directly from iPhone to external drive

I'm thinking of buying an iPhone 17 Pro, and I have a few questions about recording high-res video directly from the iPhone to an external drive.

Can I use a USB-C thumb drive? Does the USB-C have to be USB3, or can it be USB2? What is the recommended read speed of the external storage? Any other things I should know before I go ahead a buy an external drive for this purpose? Thanks in advance!

Saving Files to a Connected Location:

According to Apple, for an external hard drive, you’ll likely need an external power source, with the correct adapters. As for transferring it, you need to change the location. Changing it back to default would be required.

The DTR(Data Transfer Rate) would speed things up (for read and write capabilities), but the faster the speed, the more power you’ll consume off of the device, which is why an external perforce is recommended. A flash drive would downgrade to whatever speed is available on your iPhone.
