MacBook Air M4 extremely slow charging

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a new MacBook Air with the M4 chip (Apple MacBook Air 13” MC6T4 (M4 10-Core, GPU 8-Core, 16GB, 256GB)), and I’m experiencing an issue with extremely slow charging.

Problem description:

  • When charging with the original 35W power adapter and MagSafe cable, the MacBook takes about 9–10 hours to charge from 0% to 100%.
  • I also tested 130W adapter with an original USB-C cable from a MacBook Pro — the charging time did not change.
  • The estimated charging time shown when clicking the battery icon matches the actual charging time.

Troubleshooting steps I’ve already taken:

  • Updated macOS to the latest version,
  • Reset all settings and erased all content,
  • Completely reinstalled macOS via Recovery.

Unfortunately, none of these steps helped.

As far as I know, the latest MacBook Air models no longer use a separate charge controller that could fail, so I’m not sure what the root cause might be.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone experienced similar charging behavior with the M4 MacBook Air?
  2. Where can I find official information on what the expected charging time from 0% to 100% should be for this model?
  3. Could such slow charging indicate a hardware defect?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

PS Just to add some additional details: the MacBook is completely new — it's only about two weeks old since the purchase. The battery information shows no errors, and the maximum battery capacity is listed as 100%.
