The native Mail app and the dedicated Gmail app are not tied to each other. If you follow the advice LD150 gave you to delete the Gmail account from the native Mail app on your iPhone, it will have no affect on the Google Gmail app itself.

You commented on it. I saw your answer earlier when I clicked into this thread. But for some reason it's gone. It was a good answer otherwise... maybe it was too good.

Wierd, I saw it earlier and even referenced it to the OP. Now it's gone. The mods do make mistakes occasionally and delete posts by accident.
