Issues Updating an iPhone:
Obviously, it is a network error. So,...
A. Important: Backup First: Be certain to backup your iPhone, prior to transferring data. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong after the transfer.
B. Force Restart your iPhone:
Start with a Free Restart. Go here: Force Restart iPhone - Apple Support
C. Turn Off ALL VPNs:
Are you using any VPN(s), here? If so, turn it/them off.
D. Restart your Router:
Power off your router and modem for 30 seconds, and then power them back on. The connection may need to refresh, id DHCP is being used.
E. Update to iOS26.1, this Time Through a Computer:
iOS 26.1 is the most-recent available iOS version for the iPhone 12. So, try upgrading to it. You can do so directly on the iPhone itself; through a computer; or even the Cellular (if an iPhone 12 with 5G being available to you). Turnoff any and ALL VPNs on your devices.
