Spam calls ring through on iOS 26.2 despite settings

Spam calls go thru.

IOS 26.2. I have settings Ask reason for calling and I tried Silence. I also have Spam option enabled. However, all Spam calls still rings. It wasn’t like that before last iOS updates. How can I silence Spam calls? It is really annoying.

iPhone 14 Pro Max, iOS 26

The "Toggle and Reboot" Fix (Most Successful)

Many users found that the update "desynced" the setting. It looks like it’s ON, but the system isn't actually checking the list.

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Phone.
  • Tap Screen Unknown Callers and set it to Never.
  • Force Restart your iPhone: Quick-press Volume Up, quick-press Volume Down, then hold the Side Button until the Apple logo appears.
  • Once back on, return to Settings > Apps > Phone and set it back to Silence or Ask Reason for Calling.

Check the New "Call Filtering" Toggles

iOS 26 introduced a specific sub-menu for carrier-level spam that is separate from "Silence Unknown Callers."

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Phone.
  • Scroll down to the Call Filtering section.
  • Ensure the Spam toggle is explicitly turned ON. (Note: If this was already on, toggle it off and back on after a restart).

Disable "Time Sensitive" for Phone/Messages

In iOS 26.2, some spam calls are being incorrectly tagged with "Time Sensitive" metadata, which allows them to "Break Through" even if you are in a Focus mode or have silencers active.

  • Go to Settings > Notifications > Phone.
  • Toggle OFF "Time Sensitive Notifications."

Clear Communication History

The "Silence Unknown Callers" feature will not work if you have ever interacted with that number before (including a previous outgoing call or a text message).

  • If a specific spammer is hitting you repeatedly, check your Messages and Recents. If there is any history with that number, the system considers it "known." Delete the thread and then Block the contact manually.

Check Carrier Settings

Sometimes Apple's filtering relies on the carrier's "handshake."

  • Go to Settings > General > About.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds. If a "Carrier Settings Update" pop-up appears, install it immediately.
