Safari: Facebook Messenger web issues

Hi folks,

Recently, Facebook discontinued the Messenger desktop app. Since then user can reach the service on web via www.messenger.com and using Safari I have many troubles with it. Messages are not sent, pending with sending status, conversations not fully loading and sometime is says that no internet. Other applications, websites works fine. I gave a try to Chrome and it's not replicating the issue.

Is there anyone out there facing the same or something similar? Any suggestion to resolve it?

Thanks

Among other privacy-centric features Safari incorporates anti-tracking / anti-fingerprinting measures in addition to uncompromising conformance to established standards for security protocols. Many information-harvesting websites (like Meta / Facebook) don't like that. If so you are of no use to them, and their services might not work.

Read https://webkit.org/tracking-prevention/ among other sources of information. If you choose to use Google products including Chrome then you have chosen to give up your privacy, so presumably that does not concern you. If it does there are better options.

Hi Idris,

Thanks for the feedback. I am not sure if that is purely Facebook. I don't have any issue with the service using Google Chrome which leads me to believe it is rather something with Safari. Basic attempts like clearling cache and cookies, etc has already been ruled out, none of them helped.

I even asked ChatGPT based on the sympthoms and it said this may go back to certain settings of Safari.

Facebook has had issues for years. If Chrome works for you, and you don't care about the security implications, use that.

And you believed it?

I don't remember having any issues like that. I moved away from Chrome years ago and since then I use Safari on all my devices. I'd like to stick to Safari without sacrificing the experience on Messenger.

What made you believe I believed it? I just consider it as a plausibile root cause and John in his response below stated the same what GPT said, so actually it was not that invalid hint what GPT referred.

Thanks Jon. That's exactly what ChatGPT referred that it may go back to anti-tracking. What I cannot wrap my head around is then why Facebook works flawlessly and the issue only occurs with Messenger. Before I used the Messenger desktop app and every now and then I used the web-based version and I don't remember such an issue.

I will investigate this a bit further, thanks for giving a hint where to go.
