Lost Iphone got turned off. Lost mode is turned on after the lost Iphone is turned off.

Hi. Someone stole my phone (15 plus). They turned the phone off (or turned on the airplane mode or something) when my sister was spamming calling when we were trying to find it. I realized it and turned on lost mode immediately, but i believe the action was still after the phone was turned off. My phone went offline on the find my iphone app. I went to the location where it was last shown on find my Iphone but all I can found was my empty bag. I think that was where the thieves turned off the phone, took everything and threw the bag off.

Can lost mode still be activated on that lost Iphone of mine? I dont know if they just turned the airplane mode on or turn the Iphone off. Can the lost mode still come through despite of airplane mode?

Or They might turned the LTE off then the phone. If they turned the phone off, can the lost mode activation still comes through? Will the phone automatically connect to LTE when it is turn on again?

Will the lost mode activated when the device is connected to any type of network or is it only Wifi or LTE?

And I need my number so, I ask my T-mobile guy about transferring the number to my another phone. But he said that if I did that, the lost Iphone would have no service, thus no LTE, so find my iphone or lost mode might not come through that device. But then he continued, If I really need my number, just accept losing the LTE on that lost phone. The lost mode might not be activated through LTE but when these thieve try to crack it, they might have to connect to some type of Wifi and accidentally activated the lost mode. His advice sounds really logic to me but Im so afraid of the lost mode can not be activated without LTE and these thieves can get into my phone somehow. I really hope that they will turned on the phone at some point then the LTE will send its location to me. I will then call the cops to explain the situation and give them the address to arrest the thieves.

However, the second T-mobile guy told me to just accept the lost because hope only makes the disappointment

worse. He said that, these thieves might already flight away by the time the cop arrives. Like they just go to a place to open the phone, then leave right after. Moreover, he believed these thieves can keep the iphone offline (by turn on airplane mode, turn off wifi an LTE) and just crack it. Or even with lost mode on, they can just hack to crack it. My phone would be completely fcked as soon as they can get into it. Can these thieves are really able to do that that easy or is that that T-mobile guy was just sh1tting me? He make me feel like the passcodes and face id are just useless. It would be a mess if these thieves can get into my phone and I really dont want it to happens.

I really need my phone number for all the works and stuff but I have no idea what to do now. Can someone please give me some advice or anything? Thank you y'all.

Someone stole my phone (15 plus). Got that.

They turned the phone off. iPhone thieves usually wrap aluminum foil around a phone or place it in a small Faraday bag, so the phone cannot send or receive any signals. This might make you think they turned the phone off, but iPhone thieves know that an iPhone can still send out an intermittent Bluetooth signal even if it is turned off, so they strongly prefer to prevent the phone from sending or receiving a signal.

(or turned on the airplane mode or something). You did have a Passcode on the phone, correct? They did not turn on Airplane Mode or anything else unless they knew your Passcode. They could not have guessed your Passcode in less than 10 tries before the phone locked out and would not even allow any more Passcode entries. Now, if you did not have a Passcode on the phone, they could do just about anything they wanted.

Can lost mode still be activated on that lost Iphone of mine? Yes and no. Yes, if you can use Find My to log on and your phone's location appears. No, if you log on to Find My and see a message that the phone is "Offline".

Or They might turned the LTE off then the phone. They could not do this unless they knew your Passcode, so they could get into the settings on your phone.

Will the phone automatically connect to LTE when it is turn on again? Yes, but as we already told you, iPhone thieves are smart. They know how to prevent the phone from either sending or receiving a signal in a few seconds.

Will the lost mode activated when the device is connected to any type of network or is it only Wifi or LTE? If your phone appears when you log on using Find My, you can activate Lost Mode at that time.

And I need my number so, I ask my T-mobile guy about transferring the number to my another phone. But he said that if I did that, the lost Iphone would have no service, thus no LTE, so find my iphone or lost mode might not come through that device. Again, we will mention that iPhone thieves know how to prevent the phone from sending or receiving a signal, even if the phone is "On".

but Im so afraid of the lost mode can not be activated without LTE. This is not correct.

and these thieves can get into my phone somehow. They cannot get into your phone unless they know the Passcode......or you did not enable a Passcode on the phone.

I really hope that they will turned on the phone at some point then the LTE will send its location to me. The thieves know that is is possible. That is why they keep a stolen phone wrapped in aluminum foil or a Faraday bag.

I will then call the cops to explain the situation and give them the address to arrest the thieves. The cops will not do anything except take your report about your stolen phone.

However, the second T-mobile guy told me to just accept the lost because hope only makes the disappointment worse. Good advice. The phone is gone, you will never see it again.

Like they just go to a place to open the phone, then leave right after. Again.....no one can "open" the phone unless they know the Passcode, or you did not enable a Passcode.

Or even with lost mode on, they can just hack to crack it. Nope. The thieves don't want to crack the phone. They want to sell it as quickly as possible. This usually means that they will make a fast $50-75 dollars by selling the phone to a "fence" who will in turn ship the phone to a huge remanufacturing plant in China. Or, try to sell the phone to someone at a "swap meet" who is not smart enough to know that the phone will be worthless to them.

Yes; it’s not coming back.

Leave it locked, and — in the extremely unlikely case it is reenabled before disassembly or before leaving the continent — it’ll relay its location via a nearby Apple device.

PS: If you are using a SIM, it would be particularly unwise to leave that (in working order) with a stolen device.

Besides what Mr. Timmons explained, beware of messages from “Apple”, the “Police”, etc. claiming that they want to reunite you with your phone. These messages are NOT from Apple or the cops, but from thieves, fences, etc. who want to trick you into releasing Activation Lock - or giving them your credentials so that they can release it (and possibly ransack your synchronized and backed up data in iCloud, as well).

Just one quick last question, what ios/ phone model that you are referring to when you say that they can not turn off the phone without the passcode.

Please check again above to see that I never said that you cannot turn off the phone without the passcode. The thieves accomplish the same task as turning off the phone (and more) by simply wrapping the phone in aluminum foil or placing it in a small Faraday bag. They don't need to turn off the phone.

Note that I said that even if the phone is powered off, it can still send an intermittent Bluetooth signal to help with location information. The bad buys don't want you to be able to track it, so they prevent the phone from even sending a signal by wrapping it in foil or placing it in a Faraday bag. This is why you are seeing an "Offline" or "No Device Found" message when you use Find My to try to locate the phone.

What I did say was that the thieves would need to know your Passcode to get into any of the settings (or data) on the phone.

The lost mode will be activated if the phone is re-enabled again right?

No, as I explained in a previous reply........in order to enable Lost Mode on the phone, the phone must appear when you log on using Find My. If it does, you can enable Lost Mode at that time. I'm sorry, but even if Lost Mode is enabled on the phone, it offers no more additional security or protection to you, so I do not understand why Lost Mode seems to be so important to you. The phone is gone and is likely on the way to China.

But Im so scare that they can hack or bypass the phone by somehow

Please re-read what I have already posted in the previous reply. No one can get into your phone unless they know the Passcode or you did not enable a Passcode on the phone.

Re: “Just one quick last question, what ios/ phone model that you are referring to when you say that they can not turn off the phone without the passcode.”

That’s not what he said. He said that they cannot get into a passcode-locked phone [which is on the lock screen] without knowing the passcode. They can turn the phone off without knowing the passcode, but then it will demand the passcode when they turn it back on. And while it is off, they won’t be getting any data from it.

Hi. Thank you for the reply. I will leave it locked. The lost mode will be activated if the phone is re-enabled again right?

I accept of losing the phone already. But Im so scare that they can hack or bypass the phone by somehow and get into personal things (pictures/ videos/ information and stuff). Are there any way I can do to prevent that?

Its an esim I believe.

Hi. Thank you for your reply. Sorry I didnt see your reply when I reply the other dude in this chat. Yall are real professional. Your answer helped me understand many things I was confused about. Im feel much much relief now.

Just one quick last question, what ios/ phone model that you are referring to when you say that they can not turn off the phone without the passcode.

I was trying to test that on my old iphone XS with ios 17.3.1. I got my sister turned the phone on, she just simply swiped down from the top right corner to open the control panel, and at the square where you can see the icons of wifi, airdrop, lte, air plane mode. She was able to turn them on/off.

I got her to try to turn the phone off. She held simultaneously the on/off button on the right of the phone and either one of the volume button on the left. These options just poped up, like slide to turn off, medical ID. SOS call. And she can slide to turn it off easily.

So Im just wonder if it is the same on my lost iphone 15 plus or is it different because of the model or ios?

I was testing this on my old iphone XS with IOS 17.3.1

My lost iphone is 15 plus with IOS 18.6.2

What does the "Lost Mode" do?

Lost Mode allows you to lock your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch so that others can’t access your personal information. You can turn on Lost Mode in Find Devices on iCloud.com.

Lost Mode requires a device that meets the minimum system requirements listed in the Apple Support article System requirements for iCloud.

Re: “These options just poped up, like slide to turn off, medical ID. SOS call.”

There are settings that let you control what is in the Medical ID, and whether it is available on the Lock Screen.

There is some risk in making the ID available on the Lock Screen - where thieves could pull it up. But if you are lying half-dead from a heart attack, stroke, accident, etc, having the ID available to first responders who don’t know your passcode could help them save your life. Apple leaves it up to you to decide the trade off that you are most comfortable with.
