ITO Pedometer app crashes on iPhone 5SE after update

I hold on to my iPhone 5SE, and with a very few exceptions apps run as they always have.

After two «Fixed some minor bugs» updates 4 days and 1 week ago of ITO Technologies’s Pedometer app, that app just very briefly opens when I tap it, and then closes immediately. I have closed all apps and restarted the phone several times, with no improvement.

All their updates over the last few years have been labelled «Fixed some minor bugs», with version number now at 1.1.46, indicating to me that there hasn’t been an extensive update released. Can simple bug fixes cause an app not to work on an aged iOS? Thought I’d ask here before I do an attempt to remove and reinstall it. And if it, against my assumption, works fine after a reinstall, will the history be lost?

First see if there is an update for it in the app store. If not, deleting and reinstalling it is the next step. As to whether you will lose history, that depends on where the history is stored; in iCloud or on the developer’s server. If it is only stored on the iPhone it will be lost, except that it will be in a backup on your computer or iCloud, so you could recover it by doing a complete restore of your iPhone.

To check iCloud go to Settings/[your name]/iCloud and tap See All to the right of Saved to iCloud, find the app and make sure the switch for it is on.
