SOS mode and Possible second number

I recently found a lot of weird, suspicious things on my husband’s iPhone 13 and I ran a diagnostics test on the device via the website. It said that phone was in SOS mode. Upon further looking into that I found that his phone can have a sim and have two different numbers? Will this show somewhere on our Verizon bill? Also found that the sim is removable is that what causes it to go into SOS mode?

SOS mode If you see SOS, No Service, or Searching on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support yes it will happen when you remove the physical sim.

eSIMs are embedded, digital SIM cards allowing instant activation and easier carrier switching without physical cards, while physical SIMs are removable, traditional chips.

eSIMs are ideal for quick, paperless setups and international travel, whereas physical SIMs offer easier transferability between devices. Modern phones often support dual SIMs, allowing both to be used simultaneously.

SOS means that the iPhone cannot connect to the carrier's service. You can call 911 on the phone, but not any other numbers as long as SOS is displayed.

Yes, the phone can have two different numbers. I don't know how Verizon displays their bills, but If you have two numbers, you will be paying for two numbers.

Removing the SIM will result in loss of service on the phone, so SOS will be displayed when that occurs. The exception here would be if eSIMs were set up on the phone, which does not appear to be the case with the phone that you are asking about.
