The “coffee shop” VPNs badly solve a problem that hasn’t existed in a decade or so, but do so in a way perfect for collecting personally-identified metadata.

Outside of geo-shifting for distributed website and CDN testing and a few other cases, VPNs only add overhead to the connection by encrypting the encrypted data.

And some of the VPNs can tend to be active (doing, well, something) when even apparently disabled.

The built-in end-to-end encryption and tools including iCloud+ Private Relay with ODoH protect the browsing traffic (VPNs literally add a second tunnel around this) and protect privacy.

VPNs are heavily hyped. Which should cause some caution around any heavily-advertised product.

VPNs for businesses, schools, and other organizations, and other software-defined networking configurations can and should be used where the associated IT group expects or requires those. These VPNs are configured and managed and function differently than do the “coffee shop” VPNs.

Please download and run (free) EtreCheck, and share the results to the clipboard. From that, we can get a little more detail about what is installed and what is running here.

Remove Nord, and remove CCleaner, restart, and test again.

Same problem on Safari v26.3 (21623.2.7.11.6) on Mac mini 2023.

The issue only started after I updated to this latest version; it worked perfectly before. I have tried with and without extensions, and the problem is the same.

For example https://app.trakt.tv/ and some pages from Amazon.es. Even when I open multiple tabs, sometimes when I return to one of them the page appears blank.

It is clear to me that this latest update has introduced a bug in Safari. The development team should review it and fix it as soon as possible. This makes the browser unusable.

I've been experiencing the same issues for quite some time now. Youtube, Facebook, google search results. As much as I don't want to, I just switched to Firefox until Apple gets it fixed. I've been using Firefox for about a month. I've had no issues with websites loading or searches. FYI, in Safari I use no extensions, VPN's or third party add on's.

Share one of those websites for us to test, please. I’m also on macOS 26.3 and Safari 26.3 and am seeing no issues with websites.

If Safari doesn't work as expected on Mac - Apple Support offers a number of suggestions.

Yes, you’ve reported the issue, reported the websites, your suspected cause, but have unfortunately avoided answering the questions posed here. EtreCheck data, please?

If you wait several seconds (at the end of the video), the page eventually loads, but it takes far too long. This is not normal.

@Ikrupp Have you seen the video I shared in the link? I was not referring specifically to that link, but to the ones that stem from it.

I have the same software and the same extensions running as before the update from 26.2 to 26.3; it worked fine before and now it doesn’t. Draw your own conclusions. And I’m not the only one complaining about this issue.

There are things in this report that are wrong:

The extensions I have enabled (I already had them before updating to 26.3) are uBlock Origin Lite and Immersive Translate (as shown in the image). However, that report displays them differently. On the other hand, I have tested it with and without extensions enabled, and it still fails.

It also says in that report that I have little free space, which is not the case: Available: 62.80 GB.

The site loads for me in Safari OK and also in Firefox. In Firefox I run a JS blocker and Ublock and the site still works so it's unlikely to be uBlock stopping it.

That link just loaded instantly for me running macOS 26.3 and Safari 26.3 so I'd be more careful about claiming all users are seeing this. There are now 1.8 billion Apple device users in the world and even if there are hundreds of reports that amounts to almost 0% having this issue.
