It’s actually how Apple CarPlay integrates with the car’s infotainment system. When you plug in your phone, CarPlay takes over the audio source, which can interrupt SiriusXM or other native car apps.
Here are the practical ways to stop that auto-switching:

My issue does NOT occur if my iPhone is using usb connection. However, most of the time, my issue occurs (if it’s going to) within the first couple minutes of the iPhone connecting using Bluetooth. Sirius xm turns off. I turn it back on(while losing my mind) and about 5-10 seconds later, Sirius turns off again. Here’s the thing. It doesn’t happen everyday but when it happens it’s typically the first time I connect for the day. when it happens, it happens twice within the same minute. On 3 other occasions it cut out 3 times)Occasionally it will also happen just after leaving work or my daughters house. I want to note that, I bought this truck new in May of 2024. I had NO ISSUES for a number of months and then it began. I’ve been troubleshooting this ever since. I then began noticing that Sirius radio was CONSTANTLY updating. Way more frequently than I’d seen it happen in the previous 4 years.
Most of the time it occurs after I connect at my house. It never occurs if I’m listening to regular radio, my music from my phone (via Bluetooth and CarPlay) but only occurs with Sirius. I do listen to Sirius most of the time. Most days I turn off my truck with Sirius radio on and begin my day with Sirius.
Ford has been troubleshooting this issue in my 2024 F-150 for the past 3 weeks.
I’ve reported the issue thru my truck 8 different times and submitted multiple videos.
The Infotainment system had an issue and was replaced thinking that was the issue. But the issue returned within 2 days of the replacement. We’ve forgot the vehicle and rejoined it. Restarted iPhone and CarPlay. All those things.
I’ve gone into my iPhone and turned off background refreshes in almost every app I can. I’ve forgotten old wi-fi networks and forgot my work guest wi-fi because I wondered if that switch was causing something to glitch when I went from the building to the truck.
In the past 3 weeks ford has given me 2 different loaners and both were good for a day or so and boom…it starts again. The most recent info from the dealership is that there is some issue with the phone syncing to the truck and/or Sirius that is causing it to do this.
we are a ford family and an iPhone family. No one else experiences this issue in their vehicles. To be real clear, this never occurred in my previous trucks over the past 6 years and I’ve had a 2018, 2020, and 2024 trucks and all with iPhones, and none of them had this issue.
Ford believes it is an apple issue but does not know when/if an update to the system will occur from apples side thru the phones or from fords side with an over the air update to the truck. What I know is, I’m fed up after trying to figure this out and no one seems to know or maybe doesn’t care to fix it. I need a fix and I do not want to hear that I need to just use usb. If I can figure out what the issue is, I can find something other than a bandaid (connecting via usb). I paid $120 for the best phone mount with wireless charging and to have to still plug in my phone instead of being able to take advantage of this awesome feature well, it feels like moving backwards in time. Apple is better than that and im disappointed
