I charge my Mac the whole night and it shows that it is charging on the mag safe light but then 12 hours later it is on 17% and even though the light is on the mag safe charger it says that it is not charging so how do you suppose I use it for school in 15 minutes?

Try unplugging the power adapter from the electrical outlet for a minute to reset the power adapter's circuitry.
Try using a USB-C charging cable to see if that makes any difference. If this works, it is not a permanent solution.
