Apple Music bugs in macOS 27 Golden Gate

Since updating to macOS 27 Golden Gate, I have been unable to select more than one album to view / edit track data. Occasionally albums import with inconsistent info, and being unable to amend these simultaneously is incredibly time consuming. Furthermore, since macOS 26 Tahoe, and currently on macOS 27 Golden gate, pressing 'Enter' to accept changes to song info causes the selected song to start playing, as if 'Enter' was being pressed without the song info window being open. This makes accepting any changes to song info much more time consuming, as it now requires the use of the trackpad / mouse, as there is no way of accepting changes through keyboard shortcuts alone without the last edited song starting to play and removing any song queue.

Does anyone have work arounds for these two issues please? I have reported both of them to apple already, but doubt they will get addressed any time soon.

That list is most of why Katalog (musickatalog.com) exists. It runs alongside the Music app on the same files, and three of your four are fine there: you can shift or command-click across albums in its Albums view and edit them all in one Get Info window (Return applies, it doesn't start playing), dragging 50 songs into a playlist gives you 50 songs, and the sort arrows point the normal way. To clean up the 122-song Daltrey playlist in Music meanwhile, delete the playlist (the songs stay in your library) and rebuild it with Control-click > Add to Playlist, the route Joshua found above.

For the multi-album edit, click Songs in the sidebar instead of Albums: sort by Album, shift-click across the tracks of every album you want, then Song > Get Info edits them all in one window, and only the fields you change get applied. If you'd rather do tag cleanup in a separate app, Katalog runs alongside the Music app and does the same multi-select edit across any albums, with Return applying the change rather than playing the song. mine, so grain of salt.

"I have just discovered this crazy bug... on a Mac Mini running )S 27.0.1, in the Apple Music app, when i shift-select 10 songs from an album and drop them into a playlist that I have made, it adds 10 copies of EACH SONG into the playlist, for a total of 100 songs. Very bizarre"

“FYI I did find a solution to this ‘adding songs to playlist’ bug, which is to select the songs you want to add, and then control-click to cursor menu, there is an option to Add to Playlist there. This works and does not add 10 copies of each song.”

Yes, I have seen that as well. Also, quite a few bugs or "feature regressions" that I am finding. One, in a smart list, you can no longer go to view "BY ALBUM' and have those sorted alphabetically by ARTIST only by title. Is that a bug? Also, the filters keep sticking, for example if I am in SONG view and go back to RECENTLY ADDED only the artist I worked on in song view shows up, no way to reset that filter other than quitting and restarting the music app. Any others? I am on OS27.

Yes! Me too. AND I can no longer select Title, Artist or Album columns to type the first few letters and jump there (except in Playlist View, sort of, which was working and now I can't get it to happen).

I'm also very unhappy with the song information and controls at the bottom of the window, obscuring the bottom songs, when there is perfect available blank space at the top of the window, At least give us the option to move it.

I was astonished to see the same thing, soon after updating to 27.0.1 on my (quite expensive and allegedly fast) new Mac mini M5 Pro.

First I tried to drag around 50 songs into a new playlist. Several tries, spinning beachball, and when I saw the green plus symbol, I released. But the playlist remained empty each time.

So I dragged one song into the list and that worked as it should. Next I dragged in the other tracks from that same album, and saw 10 copies of each song (except for that first one)!

And yes, this is only one of several new problems in “Music”.

Oct 5, 2026 7:47 PM in response to Cheeky Fudge

To anyone who has nothing better to do, here's part of the email I just sent (with screenshots) to reportaproblem@apple.com regarding some wacky new nonsense with Music:

After setting up my new Mac mini M5 Pro I began noticing bugs.

1) CAN’T TYPE FIRST LETTERS: I should be able to select Title, Artist or Album column, type the first letter(s) and jump to that part of the list, with a song highlighted. It’s either the song/artist/album I wanted, or very easy to scroll (or up/down arrows) to find my target. THIS HAS STOPPED WORKING.

But there’s more. I had the same problem with any playlist I tried (I usually change my playlist to “Song” view), until I tried a playlist which is shown in “Playlist” view — the one which shows bigger lines with album artwork, and less information. With Apple Senior Advisors as my witnesses, I was able to type a letter or two and jump to certain artists and songs! After doing it multiple times, it stopped working. At some point I went back to a Song view list and typed a letter and was amazed. It worked and clearly jumped to a list. I did it twice! And then it stopped working despite several tries.

That was yesterday. Before writing this email, same symptoms. I didn’t work, then suddenly it worked but only once and not again. Now in the main gigantic Songs list, I arbitrarily typed MY and the list jumped to Elvis Costello’s 1st album, “My Aim Is True” the first song of that album is highlighted. It’s working now. I have the Album column selected, and I can type letters and jump to different albums over and over. (But this didn’t work 45 minutes ago, hope you’re getting this.)

Then I click on the Artist column heading and typed YE. Maybe that will bring me to Yes? No probably The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs? But no. I get the alert sound. This doesn’t work. I select the Title column, same. Doesn’t work. Computer barks at me for each letter I type. So I go back to Album, which was working GREAT a minute ago. Doesn’t work. Bizarre. It’s broken.

Well, you can’t change the Songs list to Playlist view, so I go to a random playlist. Songs view. Doesn’t work in any column, I switch list to Playlist view, typing letters doesn’t work in any column. This was working many times yesterday, but as I said, then it stopped working.

I didn’t try to do screen recordings because you can’t see me typing.

2) PLAYLIST VIEW, THE ARROWS ARE BACKWARDS: During these experiments, the Apple Advisors and I saw that the ^ and ˇ symbols in the column headings are reversed from normal. Wild! The up arrow (^) mean ascending, or A to Z. This is how it has always been in Songs view. To my memory these were not previously available in Playlist view, but I’m not sure. I believe we used to not be able to sort by different columns in Playlist view but now we can. But the arrows are reversed. When I switch that list to Songs view, the list stays the same and the arrow changed to the correct direction. (See screenshot, attached). This is not a problem for me, just thought you guys should know about it. Please fix everything else first.

3) CANNOT SELECT MULTIPLE ITEMS IN RECENTLY ADDED or ALBUMS lists: I’ve done this hundreds of times. Lasso or Shift/Command-click two or more items whether to edit them all at once (example, to add artwork to three files, or to write a comment in every song of ten albums). Now I can only select one. That’s bad. I cannot lasso anything. The only was to select an album without opening it to its song list is to Shift-click or Command-click on it. Was this a choice? I’m guessing it was an accident.

4) UNWANTED MULTIPLE COPIES OF THE SONGS: This one will blow your mind. Yesterday before my second Apple call (and after updating the OS), I created a new playlist: “Roger Daltrey”. In the Songs list I selected around 50 songs (five Daltrey albums) and tried to drag them to the new playlist. I watched in horror as my brand-new $4,000 machine struggled with loading. Spinning beachball. I tried this a few times. Makes no sense. When I saw the green “+” symbol, I released, but no songs made it into the playlist. Tried a few times. Empty playlist. So I dragged only one song in, and this worked perfectly. Next I grabbed the rest of the songs on that one album and dragged them in. It worked! However, now this playlist has every song (except that first song) ELEVEN TIMES. This shouldn’t even be possible. (See screenshot.) At the top it says this playlist has 122 songs, 7 hours and 10 minutes.

This took me more than an hour to write. It’s important to me, and I wanted to be thorough. Crossing my fingers that you will (read all of this?) and fix these new frustrating problems.

Sincerely,
