Itunes 10 and Tiger 10.4.11

Just downloaded iTunes 10 and it says it works with 10.5 upwards only but the website says:

Macintosh Software
Mac OS X version 10.4.11 or later; Mac OS X version 10.5 or later is required to play an iTunes LP or iTunes Extras
QuickTime 7.6 or later
Support for HE-AAC requires QuickTime 7.6.4 and Mac OS X version 10.5 or later
Safari 4.0.3 or later
200MB of available disk space

Anyone else had this problem?

Powerbook 15 G4, Mac OS X (10.4.5)

The iPhone 3G requires iTunes 7.7 or later -> iPhone 3G - Technical Specifications
iPhone 3GS requires iTunes 9.2 or later -> iPhone 3GS Technical specs

To get Leopard, have him call Apple Online store (1-800-MY APPLE (692-7753) and ask for a Product Specialist.
All Mac OS X 10.5+ installers are for non-PowerPC Macs. Intel only.

This is incorrect.
10.5 will install on PowerPC.

"Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard requires:

A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or Power PC G4 (867 MHz or faster) processor
512 MB memory or more
A DVD drive for installation
9 GB of available disk space or more "

This is Apple again with the "we're in charge" attitude making their paying customers pay for stuff they dont want, why wont iTunes 10 work on 10.4, theres no reason it shouldnt, its only apple making it not work!

ANY version of iTunes works on ANY version of Windows.

The way Apple are obsessed with being in control they are going to lose a lot of customers. It seems anytime you buy something, its not yours, Apple are only loaning you it.... well in my world if i buy something its mine and ill do what i want with it.

The way Apple are going I think quiet a few people will choose Droid as their next phone, The restrictions they have on the actual iPhone means it doesnt do a lot of what even older phones can do, The way you cant downgrade firmware, how many people are left with problems on 4.3, iTunes 10 not working on the older OS's, why? its only a program.

People will soon get sick of it

I'm really floored by apple supporting windows better then their own OS. Will this really effect me using an iPod touch? Cause I already preordered a 4th gen one.

Apple have no control over Windows, so they cant make iTunes 10 not work on it, wheras on their own OS they can, there is no reason at all it shouldnt work other that Apple not wanting it to, It is in fact only a program after all.

With the way Apple are going a lot of people wont choose them in the future.

I'm confused. I'm in a similar situation and looked at the upgrade possibilities and all I could find was an upgrade to Snow Leopard. But, since I only have Tiger, it was gonna cost me $129.

Am I wrong?

I'll spend $30, but not $129. Regardless, I still hate this stupid, stupid company and resent the legions of fans it's amassed who seem to not have the wherewithal to learn how to use a REAL computer. I guess the real answer is to purchase a Droid and an HP Laptop...

I apolgise for possibly restating a question that's already been argued to death, but I'm feeling a little swamped by the volume and depth of replies here and don't claim to be any kind of expert.

I have a Mac mini (Intel) with OS X 10.4.11. I have just been bought a new ipod shuffle, requiring iTunes 10.

How can I sort this (ideally for free or cheaply). I am in the UK.

Or is my initial reaction of 'this is cynical built-in obsolescence' justified?

Thanks for any advice

This is absolutely ridiculous APPLE. I would not mind updating my computer operating system. But I will upgrade to Lion when it comes out because I was already planning on that. However, from this moment to the moment that I can download Lion I will be hating you because I can not sync my Generation 3 Ipod with my 10.4.11 operating system. For whatever reason it stopped working and now I get the message that it will only work with itunes 10 which I need a different operating system for, that equals and extra $30 in your pocket because you are too lazy or greedy to let itunes 10 run on Tiger systems.

Honestly, I have been a extremely happy customer until this moment. I'm very disappointed by your actions. You are turning into all the other computer companies out there.... not listening or caring about your customers. You are being a greedy company that only cares about the bottom line. And you think you can do that by making people update to Leopard right before Lion comes out? Making them pay twice? REALLY? ??? REALLY????????

Hi,
I found iTunes 9.2.1 and installed it instead of iTunes 10 on my Powerbook G4 with Tiger 10.4.11 and it synced up to my new iphone G3s smoothly.
I found it here on Apples site at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1056.
From what I've found iTunes 10 will nt work on Tiger and this is the way to go.

Good luck, and thanks to Apple for having iTunes 9.2.1 available for those of us who LOVE our 12inch G4:)

I think this is part of the same issue.

- I run a G4 laptop for my business using iCal. (sys. 10.4.11).
- My workstation is now a MacPro running latest system.

- my iTunes library is on the MacPro and is at update (10.2.1).

After updating my iPod Touch music and apps I now get this message when attempting to connect to my G4:

+"the iPod "xxxxx" cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.1 or later. Go to itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."+

I am wondering what to do to fix this. Should I move my library over to my G4 laptop and reset my iPod Touch on this computer?

Need to keep my iCal updated User uploaded file

I had the pleasure of wasting two hours of my life on the phone with Apple yesterday (1/2 of that being passed around department to department). In the end I was connected to a very knowledgeable techie. Or so it seemed. After having me trash all my iTunes 10 App files and re-install iTunes 9.2.1 I hung up thankful for having reached someone who knew their stuff.

And then I went to launch my "restored" iTunes 9.2.1

And was given the unpleasant notice that it will not open because it can't recognize the library because the library was created in iTunes 10.

So, two hours later I was back to point A of not having a solution to this issue.

And, by the way, I asked if ANYONE at Apple was aware of 18 pages of complaints about this.

Not happy. Not happy at all.
