Itunes 10 and Tiger 10.4.11

Just downloaded iTunes 10 and it says it works with 10.5 upwards only but the website says:

Macintosh Software
Mac OS X version 10.4.11 or later; Mac OS X version 10.5 or later is required to play an iTunes LP or iTunes Extras
QuickTime 7.6 or later
Support for HE-AAC requires QuickTime 7.6.4 and Mac OS X version 10.5 or later
Safari 4.0.3 or later
200MB of available disk space

Anyone else had this problem?

"And was given the unpleasant notice that it will not open because it can't recognize the library because the library was created in iTunes 10. "

I haven't used the newer iTunes and am reading this because I am getting ready to upgrade the house.

However, in older versions, and perhaps in the newer versions as well, you can trash your library/Database files for iTunes. Then take the folder than actually contains all your music and drag it onto the iTunes window and a while later iTunes will have cataloged all of your content in a newly created library.

Does the newer iTunes not have this easy method of importing content? It's very handy for those times when one's library has gotten out-of-hand/munged for some reason, and you just want to rearrange the folders holding the content in a logical manner and import the organized result back into iTunes.

CityNetter, some of us don't have $30 to throw out the window at this minute. Plus, we paid for all our music it should work. But yes, apparantly, I will have to do that - apple has give me no choice. And my one bar on my powerbook is so beautiful next to the 5 on my pc laptop. I have a G4 too and ran around like a fool touting apple, my bf is an apple tech at his job and we are both over the aggravation.

I jst got a power PC G5 running OSX 10.4.11 and am well pi**ed off that I can't access itunes10/ What the duck are apple playing at. They are watching the profit margin on new stuff and not supporting (not that old!) OSX 10,4 users. And why the support for much older PC users with itunes 10? Makes no sense and I will be making my next pooter a PC if they don't sort this **** out!!

Your other option is to get a used or refurbished Mac Mini, which sells for less than many a PowerMac G5, and still is more powerful. Any Core2Duo Mac Mini will have a lot more it can run than a G5. The only reason to have gotten a G5 is software that only runs a on G5. Most that is new does not anymore. Sell the G5, and in the future research what you really need more.

Apple if you're reading (and I suspect not given the arrogant attitude recently), having been a long Apple customer, this issue with iTunes has finally forced me to break ties. The software upgrades can no longer be relied upon and the support is now worse than the alternatives. I would have purchased a new iPod, but with a G4 & 10.4 I have no way of purchasing music from iTunes! I now purchase my music from Amazon. What a way to treat loyal customers Apple!

yeah thanks apple...once again shafting your loyal customers. you've just been announced as the top grossing company in the world and yet you are still so desperate to pinch pennies from those who support you. its pathetic! every single new computer you bring out comes with a brand new video connector just so you can make an extra £20 (something that costs you less than 50p i'm sure). You have become masters of convincing people their products are out of date but all you are going to do is p*ss your customers off. a 3 year old product is NOT out of date, especially when it cost £1000+

i have a recent unibody macbook pro so this problem doesn't even affect me, but it makes me sick that you keep getting away with this cr*p

sincerely, another angry customer who supported you for years

I expect members will continue to express their concern on this forum over the support they receive on products purchased with their hard earned cash, and within reason these comments are legitimate topics for discussion. While I (and others) don't seriously expect Apple to reply to post on the forum, the feedback is informative, particularly to prospective customers - giving them an 'insight' into living with Apple products longer term. I will be contacting Support (BTW thanks for the URL), looking at the number of posts on the subject sadly it doesn't appear to have solved the issue for anyone. It looks as though iTunes 9.2.1 might work, but this doesn't seem successful for everyone, or indeed may not work for long if Apple reduce compatibility further on the store. Owning a Mac just didn't used to be this difficult ...
