Crackling Noise During Music Playback after iOS 4.1 Update
Hey guys. Play music through my iPhone via USB in my Prius. Music has always been fine, but when i updated to 4.1, then started to play music in my car, i noticed a crackling noise during music playback. I thought maybe the speakers were blown, but there is no such sound when i play music CDs or pandora or anything other than the Mp3s. Is anyone having music playback issues after the 4.1 update???
Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz 4GB RAM 160GB HDD,
Mac OS X (10.6.4),
iPhone 4 16GB
i have the same crackling noise as well, with a pioneer AVH-3100. i was very excited when 4.2 came out...finally was supposed to be able to listen to my music in my truck. oh well...
IIn a frustrated last ditch attempt..I completely reinstalled the firmware 4.2.1 and did not restore my backup..transferred a couple of albums and tried the IDA-X001...searches for a bit then reports IPOD Error...I rebooted iphone and same error.
SOMEONE has got to be able to articulate what the issue is or what Apple have done.
I think its getting progressivley worse with each update since moving to IOS...i think by 4.3 i'll try connecting and it'll have progressed to corrupting the iphone in total.
I have submitted iPhone feedback and a bug report to Apple which as far as I can tell is as much as can be done. I know the Alpine iDA-X001 is getting old but did work fine with every iPhone/OS update since the first iPhone. The iPhone 4 worked fine with the Alpine unit up until the iOS4.1 update. Can't imagine they'll be ignoring this issue as it seems to be affecting quite a few different makes of car stereo that use USB as their input.
4.2.1 seems to have completely broken compatibility with the car stereo. The USB still charges the phone but that is all. No sound is going to the car stereo from the phone. Not from the iPod app, streaming audio apps or my sat nav app. I have tried resetting both the iPhone and car stereo in different ways (connected, disconnected and while booting up) but still no joy. The stereo says "searching" and then says "iPod error". The iPhone gives me a warning that the accessory does not work with it, which I've never had before.
This is my first post, but I had to chime in here. I also have the Alpine ida-x001, and it worked fine with iOS4.0 and my iphone4. Version 4.1 gave me the crackling distortion, so I looked forward to 4.2 since the GM release was reported to have fixed it. I "upgraded" the night before last, and yesterday morning I had the same experience as most here. Headunit searched, and then said "Ipod Error". I tried all manner of resets, plugging in the usb cord at all suggested times during the powering on, even restored the iphone. Nothing changed. I reset the headunit. Nada. I even tried using the white apple usb cable in place of the Alpine one. Then it didn't even recognize the device at all. I'm completely at a loss.
I guess we're waiting with baited breath till December's iOS 4.3? Like the rest of you, I'm very disappointed, after having a unit that worked flawlessly when I first got it... 😟
Same exact problems here. All went downhill after 4.0.2. After upgrading to 4.2.1 and finding out that I lost all connectivity with my Alpine ida-x001 multimedia deck, I went as far as to take my iPhone to the apple store for a swap-out. Luckily for me, the replacement units were still on 4.1. So now I have my crackly skipping music back 🙂 YAY!!!!!
Hope they fix this soon, I want my navigation and streaming audio back, in my car!!!
I am VERY happy to report, that my iPhone 3G plays beautifully, without noise, after the 4.2 update. Thank you so much Apple!
For those of you still having issues with your stereos not recognizing the phone, try a hard restart.
I have a Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD, and if the head unit can not see the music files in my phone, it acts as if it doesn't recognize the phone at all.
After the 4.2 update, for whatever reason, I could not view anything iPod content on my phone until after a hard restart. The stereo was not recognizing the phone and I was losing my mind.
Hard restart, stereo sees the phone, and CRYSTAL CLEAR AUDIO!
Now, if Apple could just make a Wi-Fi card that didn't crap out after a few months I would be very happy.
Thank God this fixed my issues I was having with my Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD. I had the same crackling...to the point where I thought, when I installed the head unit I blew out all my interior speakers. Luckily I found this thread and, with 4.2.1, my issues have all been cleared up. Thanks Apple. Keep up the good work.
Happy to report that my iPOD Touch 4G jitter problem with Onkyo ND-S1 has also been cleared by upgrading to 4.2.1, I did have to re-boot couple times to make it completely clean (don't know why).
Upgraded to 4.2.1 and now I get loads of cracking and popping when I connect it to the usb connector in my 2010 Insight. Never had the problem until this last update. I guess it is back to the old fashioned way of burning CDs and not upgrading the iOS since each update just creates a new set of problems.
Having the same issue. Got my new 4th generation iPod touch for Christmas to replace my 1st generation iPod touch. I drive 30 mins to work everyday and always hook my iPod up through my cars USB port. I have a Mercury Milan with Microsoft Sync. Had no problems with my old iPod but ever since I got the new iPod on with OS 4.2.1 I get the crackling/popping noises. This is ridiculous! Guess I should have stuck with my old iPod!
