Crackling Noise During Music Playback after iOS 4.1 Update
Hey guys. Play music through my iPhone via USB in my Prius. Music has always been fine, but when i updated to 4.1, then started to play music in my car, i noticed a crackling noise during music playback. I thought maybe the speakers were blown, but there is no such sound when i play music CDs or pandora or anything other than the Mp3s. Is anyone having music playback issues after the 4.1 update???
Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz 4GB RAM 160GB HDD,
Mac OS X (10.6.4),
iPhone 4 16GB
I also have the Alpine iDA-X305 and iphone 4 and the 4.1 update worked great with no skipping or stuttering when i first updated and i got 4.1 the day it came out so its been about a month.....but yesterday it started skipping and stuttering at random so i tried resting the x305 and the iphone and it did nothing tried syncing it again with my computer and still didnt do anything ....
i had my ipod touch on the ios under 4.0 and it skipped and stuttered a couple of times when i plugged it in once to my X305 and resetting it worked and nothing happened after that... i dont no if that might have been a problem that happened rarely back then and now its happening a lot with the 4.1 update but i hope this issue gets fixed soon because im out of space on my ipod touch.... so add me to the list
This is YET ANOTHER REASON APPLE NEEDS TO ALLOW SOFTWARE DOWNGRADES!
C'mon guys, this is ridiculous. You have created a problem with your product, and are forcing people to live with it by not allowing downgrades. Now we have to wait patiently for a solution (hopefully). This is one of my primary uses of my iPhone and now its useless for it. THIS is one of the biggest frustrations about the way apple handles software....
Same problem with a DEH-P6200BT and iPhone 4 (running OS 4.1). I can't imagine that Apple wouldn't address this seeing as how widespread the issue is. I purchased this phone and deck specifically for USB control/charge and it is currently unplayable given the "pops and cracks" every 10-15 seconds ... 😟
I managed to fix the problem, but it's not something most of you are going to have the luxury of doing. I downgraded my iPhone4 back to iOS4.0.1. The restores and resets weren't helping, and while turning on airplane mode helped a bit, it didn't fully stop the distortion and skipping, not to mention you lose the ability to use your phone as a phone and you can say goodbye to streaming (Pandora, etc.). If you know how to downgrade I recommend doing so, if you don't, I'm sorry.
Hi Politicalslug...I am hoping I am wrong after reading your email but isn't the only way to restore the iphone to any version PRE 4.1 is to have backed it up BEFORE the upgrade?
I am hoping you have some good news for me 🙂
Have a iPod touch 3rd GEN.. Been using it with my Pioneer AVH-p3100.. Until I updated the firmware to 4.1 from 3.1.3.. Now I play a song and it skips 1 sec every 5 secs of the song.. How wonderful.. I called apple they say its my dock connector.. I yelled at the guy cause I'm an IT.. but it doesn't take an ITs brain to have common sense and know that a software update isn't going to screw ur dock connector up.. So I made an appointment which I'm actually sitting at right now waiting for these so called "Geniuses". They told me over the phone I can get a replacement 64gb touch.. Lets hope it comes with a firmware lower than 4.1.. thats my goal of the day!! WISH ME LUCK!!!
Score!! Got back from the Apple store and they replaced my iPod Touch 64gb.. turns out the "Genius" alerted me that 4.1 will most likely be on the new touch they would give me as a replacement but to my surprise I got what I expected.. 3.1.3!!! So I can now play my Touch in my car again SCORE!!!
You will need a pre-4.1 backup if you want to restore your data after a successful restore to a pre-4.1 iOS version. You'll find your backup, in Windows, @ C:\Users\"your user name here"\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup. I had to use restore previous version, part of Windows 7/Vista backup to do this. Without this you'll have to setup your phone as a new device. Additionally, and most importantly, you'll need to have both a jailbroken iDevice AND backups of your device's SHSH for the version of iOS you are hoping to restore to. You can thank Apple for not providing a reasonable restore path. After returning to iOS4.0.1 I haven't had any issue with streaming over my car radio (Alpine ida-X001) via USB. Sadly when I called support for Alpine they had no idea (at least who I spoke to) about the issue, and the level 2 support from Apple had no idea either until I referenced this and other similar support forum threads.
My music skips like a scratched CD. The problem started the day I upgraded to OS 4.1. Apple insists it is not an OS problem. It most definately is! I have a Pioneer 4100-DVD in my truck. I had absolutely no issues before this "upgrade".
Amazing to think an "upgrade" could render my music unplayable on my iPhone 4.
This needs to be fixed ASAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem is definitely with iOS 4.1, but since Apple isn't formally acknowledging the problem I don't know if a fix is forthcoming. But since 4.2 is still a month off they have some time. Has anyone on here beta test 4.2 and check for this problem?
